Miss Kinney's 2nd Grade Class
December 5, 2014
Before Thanksgiving Break we created our holiday cards to mail for the Holiday Card Exchange!
Math Detectives
We have been working hard this week in math! Below is a picture of us playing a new game called, Detective. The students come up with a math rule (multiples of 2, even, odd, etc.) and each student must have a number or digit that follows that rule. One student, "the culprit," picks a number that does not follow the rule. The "detective" must go around to each student and try to figure out the rule we picked. It just so happened that our root of the week was culp! Students thought it was pretty neat that they got to use one of our Word of the Day words during math!
November Students of the Month
Congratulations to Gabe R. and Audrey H. for showing safety during the month of November! This month we will be focusing on the trait of self-control! Self-control can be difficult for students during the holidays. Please encourage your child to do their best every day!
Gingerbread House Decorating
We will be decorating gingerbread houses on Thursday, December 18th from 10:45 to 11:45. A permission form and ingredient list will be sent home on Monday. Please return the permission form by Friday, December 12th. Students will not be able to participate without a permission form. Don't forget that all parents are invited to attend! Please indicate on the permission form if you will be attending. We hope you will be able to join us for this fun event!
Icing for Gingerbread Houses
Each student will need their own container of white icing (any brand) to decorate their gingerbread house. You may send it in as you purchase it. Please write your child's name on the container. Thank you!
A Message from the Cafeteria!
We are starting a new program in the cafeteria for the United Methodist Food Pantry. All unopened food items that the students do not want to eat will be placed in a food box. Someone from the UMFP will be by once a week to to pick up any foods we have to donate. Please contact Mrs. Haskett in the cafeteria with any questions.
Hour of Code
Next Friday, we will be participating in 'Hour of Code'! The 'Hour of Code' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming. Look for pictures and more details in next week's newsletter!
