Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
March 24th, 2023
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
As we head into spring break, we wish you all a safe and enjoyable time. Whether you are planning a vacation, staycation, or just taking some time to relax at home, we hope you make the most of this well-deserved break.
Spring break is an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your family and friends and recharge before the school year's final stretch. We encourage all our families and students to take advantage of this time and hope you can create special memories and engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
Know that we will always be here for you and your children. And if the break is a tough one for your family, don't hesitate to reach out. We will support in any way we can. We are a community here at Muskego Lakes that extends beyond the walls of the school- and we truly mean that.
We look forward to seeing students back at Muskego Lakes refreshed and ready to finish the year strong!
In partnership,
Rachel and Nancy
Muskego Lakes Principals

As the district has worked through a comprehensive investigation of the March 3rd events (updates available on the website), we are focused on learning and growing as a school community by extending, to anyone interested, an opportunity to meet one-on-one, or in a small group, for a listen and learn session with Dr. Kelly Thompson.
To schedule a listen and learn, please either email kelly.thompson@muskegonorway.org or call 262-971-1808. We are committed to continuous improvement and are dedicated to offering opportunities for open, meaningful, and productive dialogue. 8th Grade Promotion Photos Wanted
Each year Muskego Lakes hosts a breakfast celebration for the 8th graders during the last week of school. During the breakfast, we plan to have a slideshow running with pictures from 5k to 8th grade of all the students. To make this slideshow a success we need your help, specifically your pictures (printed or digital). They can be single shots of your student, but group pictures are strongly encouraged. And don't forget to go WAY back in your photos - the students always get a kick out of seeing pictures of themselves and their classmates from years ago. The preference would be to get 5-15 pictures per family.
We are looking for the following kinds of photos:
- Pictures from 5K to 8th grade
- School field trips
- Sporting events / team photos
- Selfies with friends
Please send all your pictures by March 31st.
- Digital pictures – email MLMSClass2027@gmail.com
- Printed pictures – send in mail to Tina Marine, S97W13893 Stonebridge Way, Muskego

Staff Member Spotlight: Mrs. Vlasaty-Smith
We asked Mrs. Vlasaty-Smith to share a little about herself and her career, in addition to what what makes her proud to work at Muskego Lakes and she said:
"As a child I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. As I progressed thorough school, every year I changed the grade that I wanted to teach based upon the teachers I connected with most. In high school I took a photography class and had the most incredible teacher! I grew up in suburban Chicago and had about 4,000 students in my high school. This class was made up of students from every demographic with a mix of kids from every different social group. We had no choice but to find each other’s strengths and talk with each other while we developed film and photos the old fashion way; in a dark room under red lights. I knew that this was magical and I wanted to become a teacher that had a place for students to be themselves and be appreciated for who they were at their core. This is something I strive for in my classroom. I know that as my students grow up, how they felt in my class will be what they take away and remember most. My hope is that they feel appreciated, loved and accepted.
I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Carroll College in Waukesha and my master’s degree from National Louis University. I began my career teaching 6th grade in Racine and then taught in the Franklin Public Schools for 11 years at the elementary level before taking time off to raise my children. I returned to teaching in 2020 as an interventionist here at MLMS for one year before getting hired full time as a 6th grade teacher. I lived in Milwaukee for 13 years before moving to Muskego with my husband, Pete and three children, Harper, Haven & Hudson. "
Here is a little more to help you get to know Mrs. Vlasaty-Smith
