Klem South Penguin Press
May 2019
Dear Families,
We can hardly believe spring is upon us and the school year is almost over. This year flew by in the blink of an eye. The end of the school year often brings up mixed emotions for us all. Klem South is a special community and we love how well our classrooms have come together to form long-lasting bonds. As we approach the end of year activities, we hope that you savor these special moments with your children.
Our team has just embarked upon the placement process for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a very detailed and collaborative process. We work hard to ensure all classrooms are balanced and that students are placed in the optimal learning environment. Class placements will be shared in August.
The annual school budget vote and Board of Education election will be held on Tuesday, May 21st. Polls will be open between 6 am and 9 pm in the Webster Schroeder High School gymnasium, 875 Ridge Road. Additional information is also available on the District website. Please make voting on May 21st a priority. Every vote is important.
The warmer weather means it is time to retire the winter clothes and break out the spring and summer wardrobe. Please remember that it is best for students to have the right type of shoes for all outdoor activities. Flip flops can be very dangerous on the playground. We recommend wearing sneakers or a shoe that protects the toes.
Thank you for all that you do at home. We appreciate your partnership.
Kind regards,
Martha End and Stephen MacAdam

News from the Health Office
News from 5th Grade
The 5th Graders had a visit from a classroom parent that is a Utility Arborist from RG&E to learn about Arbor Day and Earth Day. We learned about our local trees, why we need trees, and how we can help trees. We also learned about Emerald Ash Borer and how they impact our local trees. Each student got to bring home a sapling to plant!
The fifth graders had the opportunity to participate in a grade level book battle organized by Mrs. Benz. Students really needed to work as a team. They worked for 3 months to read the books, meet with their teams and study their information. They then competed in a classroom competition followed by a grade wide competition. There was so much positive energy around teamwork and reading! Thank you to Mrs. Benz for organizing this wonderful event.
