Note from Ms. Moulton
We are all here, warm and cozy after our first storm. It seems like Mother Nature has some more snow in store for us this evening!
Our book fair is in full swing this week and we are gearing up for Science Night tomorrow. Information about both is included below.
Thank you to all of the parents of students in grades 2 and 3 who were able to attend Morning Meeting and Parent Coffee last week. This week we have time dedicated to grades 4 &5. We hope to see many of you there! As mentioned in last weeks email, to accommodate families with children in multiple grade levels, we will be holding separate events for each grade level according to the schedule below:
Kindergarten: Friday, 12/20 (you will receive kindergarten specific information from your child's teacher)
Grade 1: Wednesday 12/18
Grade 4: Wednesday, 12/4
Grade 5: Friday, 12/6
If you plan to attend, please arrive in the front lobby by 8:20. We look forward to seeing many of you at these community-building events!
Have a wonderful week!
Title I Program in Watertown
The Watertown Public School System and its Title I Schoolwide Program, K - 8 are committed to continuously improving the opportunities for parents to be actively involved in their child's learning at home and in school. We have found this general education support to be highly valuable in helping students improve their math and literacy skills. Title I is the largest Federally funded supplemental education program. It does not replace what the school does; instead, Title I gives schools and students additional resources and instruction in math and reading. Title I partially funds our math and reading support and after school tutoring. Our tutors work closely with the classroom teachers to help improve students’ skills in reading and writing.
This district Parent Involvement Plan serves to outline overall expectations for parent involvement activities and programs, establish an environment for parental participation in Watertown's Title I programs at the school level, and identify the support which the Title I program can provide to assist schools in achieving their goals of supporting student learning. The Title I Home/School Compact outlines school, parent/guardian, and student responsibilities.
We welcome you to join us for an informal meeting for parents at our upcoming Parent Coffee where we can talk in more detail around the Title I Schoolwide Program in grades K - 8 and answer any questions you may have, these will be held during our the Parent Coffees following the Morning Meeting events listed on the dates above. If you have any questions, please contact the school Ms. Moulton at firstname.lastname@example.org
What Did the Husky See?
Hi Hosmer Huskies!
Wow! What a great time I had in Mrs. Mandile’s 1st Grade class this week. It may have been a short week but it was jam-packed with fun and learning! Here are some of my favorite parts of 1st grade!
In math, 1st graders are learning about subtraction. They got to use a number path to solve subtraction number sentences in different ways. My favorite strategy was counting down.
Guess what??? Mrs. Mandile’s class became official Word Detectives this week! They had been working on special top-secret missions and finally completed all the tasks! They even got official Word Detective badges that they will wear while “on the job”. So cool!
These 1st graders LOVE Read Alouds just like me! I got to listen in with a friend while Mrs. Mandile read us “Charlotte’s Web.” It is SUCH a great book. We read the chapter when Wilber met Charlotte for the first time. It reminded me of when I met all of my 1st grade friends for the first time.
I had fun watching these 1st graders write. They are checking to be sure they spell all of their trick words correct. Wow! They already know A LOT of trick words!
Mrs. Mandile’s class got a special treat this week when one of her former students came down to read a book to them. Another great read-aloud!
Finally, we ended the week with some more fun! We ALL made turkey hats to celebrate Thanksgiving. The students also had Quiet Choice and made me some more accessories for my collections! WOW! I am one lucky pup! Can’t wait to see where I go next!
I'm off to Mrs. Fletcher's third grade class. See you next week!
Save the date for the Hosmer School Winter Concert!
Come support Hosmer musicians in our first concert of the school year. Students in 4th & 5th Grade Chorus, 2nd & 3rd Grade Huskies in Harmony, and 2nd-5th Grade Band/String ensembles will showcase music that they have been learning together.
