TRACK AND FIELD WINS STATE TITLES
Congratulations to the CHS Girls and Boys Track Teams for winning the 2019 Division I State Track and Field Championships! This is the fourth championship in a row and 13th out of the last 14 years for the girls. The boys are eight-time State Champions, and have won State three out of the last four years. Kudos to all of the athletes who won their races and events, including QuaRon Adams for running the 9th fastest U.S. all-time 100 meters for a freshman at 10.49 seconds; his time is top-five all-time in Arizona as well.
TEACHER APPRECIATION AND NATIONAL NURSE’S WEEK
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurse’s Week! Thanks to CHS’s teachers and our nursing staff for making a difference in so many students’ lives! Students are encouraged to visit the StuCo table during both lunches this week and write a special note to their teachers and Mrs. Stevenson, CHS School Nurse, and Mrs. Martinez, Nurse Assistant.
PERFECT ACT SCORE
Congratulations to Kenneth Applegate, CHS Junior, for scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT! To put Kenny’s achievement in perspective, of the more than 2 million students who took the exam nationally last year, only 2,760 achieved the perfect score. Kenny has a 4.67 GPA, maintains straight A’s in all of his classes (including four AP), and plays in the CHS Chamber Orchestra. Excellent work, Kenny!

The IB Boosters held a banquet last week to celebrate the accomplishments of the IB Diploma and Career Program candidates. This is the largest IB graduating class at CHS with 48 Diploma candidates and 18 Career Program candidates. The theme of the banquet was “The World Awaits” with a message to the students and parents to be proud of what they’ve accomplished and to keep striving to make a difference in the world. Thank you to all of the student and parent volunteers who made the night memorable.

IMPACT ASSEMBLY
This year’s IMPACT Assembly was a tremendous success and included guest speaker Mrs. Cari Fonseca who is the CEO/Found of The Next Step Foundation Team Brandon. They are a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the life-altering effects of impaired driving.
Mrs. Fonseca took full-time care of her son, Brandon, who at 21, suffered from a severe traumatic brain injury, for almost 18 years, the result of a choice he made in 2001 when he chose to drive drunk. Mrs. Fonseca urged seniors to VOW TO DRIVE SOBER and safely enjoy this prom and graduation season, so that they and their friends and family do not have to experience the devastating consequences her family has had to endure.
APAC “BOOKENDS”
CHS's Company Theatre toured CUSD elementary schools Monday and Tuesday of last week. They performed a 30-minute show "acting out" their favorite stories from 4th-6th grades. This outreach performance program serves to promote a love for reading to all students they perform for.
