Helping Hands
WE DID IT! The Orlo Vista Elementary School community is so happy to receive our donations and they were very touched by the way that we had every child participate to learn what it really means to help others. This was possible because of YOU! There was a lot of work done here in the trenches to get us on the road and we are so grateful to everyone who was a part of this project! A huge thank you to Cathy Norberg, Lorri Dyson, and Kathy Alford for taking their weekend to drive to and from Orlando to make this happen!
Teamwork! SHES and Orlo Vista...

Kronos is Coming....NOV. 13th for all staff!
What is Kronos?
It is an online program that...
- replaces leave request forms for all employees
- replaces the time cards and time sheets for classified employees
How do I know how to use it?
- There are videos for training that you are required to watch.
- They can be accessed here:
What if I don't want to use it?
- It isn't an optional program. It is mandatory so let's embrace it and make the best of it! :)
C.A.R.E. Lead Needed/Training Coming for Staff
I will be designating a Culturally Aware and Responsive Educator (C.A.R.E.) Lead. C.A.R.E. Leads will facilitate and support the staff with the CORE modules, share resources, and provide recommendations for additional or further enhanced professional learning opportunities on an ongoing basis. All C.A.R.E. Leads and the administrator attending must complete the modules prior to the C.A.R.E. Lead training at www.corclassrooms.org.
The C.A.R.E. Lead and I will attend training on December 8, 2017 at Parkside Middle School. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP. FIRST come, FIRST served as our FIRST CARE Lead!
Staff will be required to complete this training however, we are all still currently learning about this requirement! Stay tuned....
Communication is Key!
It is imperative that we are vigilant with communication. I am becoming "Future Ready" as I focus on using new technology to reach out more to staff and our school community to communicate more often providing relevant and up to date information with you.
How can you help?
- Check your email a minimum of twice a day (beg. and end of day)
- Send meaningful and accurate information home in a timely manner to parents electronically and/or in written form
- Make sure you have your dates approved for the staff calendar (send email to Karen,Jackie, Carrie and Ashlee) the reply all will be the "approval" for Jackie or Karen to place the event on our staff calendar. If you are reserving school space (a specific room), then you must talk with Karen and use the school dude program. Note: The PLC Room is for team meetings ONLY. Soon, we will have student names and data on the walls. This room will not be used for anything but team meetings on team planning days or with admin. for specific meetings.
Data!
Please make sure that ALL DATA is entered for ALL students. It is imperative that all scores on the one drive have an AVERAGE and a PASS RATE (Pass Rate only if we agreed to do so in our PLC meetings). No letter grades should be recorded on the one drive. The rubric scores for Math unit Assessments, Part A should be recorded as 1,2,3, or 4 and all other grades (Benchmark BOY, MOY, EOY, Math Unit Assessments, Part B, etc. with the exception of a DRA score) should have a percentage recorded like this: 85. Please do not record a percentage like this: 85% or like this: 85.2463. The title of the assessment should be at the top and should be consistent with every teacher in your grade level. In addition, the sub group averages/pass rates should be listed on ALL unit reflections (SPED, EL, Hispanic).

Future Ready...
I'm trying new ways to communicate with you and with our families...Thank you in advance for your patience as my inner super hero comes out....Its a bird! Its a plane! Its COMMUNICATOR CARRIE...ON HER WAY TO TYPE AWAY! Faster than an old typewriter, Speedier than a 2 year old texting, Smarter than a fifth grader (so she says), and full of information to share.....She's becoming FUTURE READY...Her goal is to become real steady (with technology and communication)...Some know her as the Texting Tornado but to us, she's simply a principal trying to communicate in as many ways as possible to provide her staff and school community with as much information as she possibly can...
