First LEGO League (Robotic) News!

The Oakley Park First LEGO League (Robotics) team completed in the state championships, December 15, at Bloomfield Hills High School. We are so proud to share that our team and their Robot Mission scored 18th out of 60 teams! This is the teams first "official" season. Our team worked very hard preparing for the state championship including some MAJOR problem solving the morning of the event. The team learned so much about about team work and they demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition. They were recognized for their willingness to help other teams too! This team would not be possible without a awesome team of parent volunteer! Coaches: Dave Kline & Brian Ulmer (Amy Kline and Janette Ulmer)

If you and your student is interested in learning more about First LEGO League, please contact Brian Ulmer: brian.r.ulmer@gmail.com

(team members: Eddie Petre, Ethan Kline, Connor Ulmer, James Pace, Mason Kline)

20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 2019

The Walled Lake Consolidated School District invites the community to the 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 21, 2018 at Walled Lake Northern High School. The evening's events will include a Multicultural Dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and an exhibition of student artwork from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The program will begin at 6:15 p.m., and will also include performances by student choirs, presentations by several students, and recognition of this year’s Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award recipients. This year’s theme is “Heroes in the Community: Women Making a Difference”. This year’s MLK Day Celebration is made possible thanks to generous donations from the PTA/PTSA groups from across our district, the Walled Lake Education Association, the Walled Lake School Administrators Association, the Walled Lake Schools Federal Credit Union, and the Meemic Insurance Company. This event is free and open to the entire community.

2019-2020 WLCSD Calendar is now available!

Please note:

· We will start the school year prior to Labor Day again.

· Late starts (middle school) and early release (high schools) have been eliminated.

· There are several half-days throughout the school year.

As we have in the past, we will offer a reduced rate Prime Time Care service on each of these half days.

You might be wondering...Why are there so many half days?

Throughout the school year, there are eight half days that will be used for staff professional development. We recognize that half days can be inconvenient for families. That said, research has shown that when teachers receive ongoing, job-embedded professional development, they can increase student achievement by as much as 21 percentile points (Source). As a school and district, we are committed to continuous improvement and these eight half days are an essential part of that commitment. Although they may seem inconvenient, staff development opportunities are crucial to ensure we provide an exemplary education for our children.
