Update from the Superintendent
April 2, 2020
Dear East China Students, Staff, and Families,
Governor Whitmer signed an executive order today closing all schools in Michigan for the remainder of the school year. Even though it was expected, it was hard to hear that we will not be going back this school year. This does not mean learning in ECSD will end! Her order mentions what education for all students in Michigan might look like and encourages districts to come up with a plan for extended learning. I am proud to say that we already have resources in place to continue learning for our students through our "At Home Learning Resources" which can be found on our District's website (https://eastchinaschools.org/home-learning-resources/). In the coming weeks, we will further define these resources as our teachers and staff thoughtfully develop plans to take us into what would have been the end of the school year.
There are still some steps we must work through including submitting our plan to St. Clair County RESA, which is required by the executive order. More information regarding this plan will be communicated to you within the next few weeks.
What I can tell you now is that the connection between our students and our amazing ECSD teachers will continue. This is the single most important thing our children need from us right now. That stability will ensure that all ECSD students are ready to face the next chapter in their educational journey and their lives.
For our graduating seniors, please know that this does not mean we won’t celebrate you. The Class of 2020 is in our thoughts constantly and we will do our best to work within this crisis to ensure your transition to ECSD Alumni does not go unnoticed. We want you to know we love and support you.
For all our students and families, know that we have your best interest in mind in all we do. Please use this time for you and your family to focus on your physical and emotional well-being.
We will get through this together!
Sincerely,
Suzanne Cybulla
Food Service Update
In order to adhere to the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order that was issued by Governor Whitmer on March 25, a couple of changes must be made to our “Grab and Go” food service program.
Starting the week of April 6th:
Pick up will be once a week on Wednesdays only. Enough food will be provided for breakfast and lunch for each child for seven days.
The pick up time will remain the same from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Pick up locations will be reduced to two sites: Marine City High/Middle School and St. Clair High School. Gearing Elementary will no longer be a pick up location - all St. Clair students will pick up at St. Clair High School.
Thank you to all of the food service employees, custodial staff, and generous volunteers who are making it possible for us to continue to provide these meals for our families. It takes a team and we have a great one.
Thank you!
