The Latest and Greatest News for Churchill Families (Aug 27)

Our Bulldog Best

Thank you for a great start to the 21-22 school year. It truly is a team effort and I appreciate everyone coming together to create some memorable moments in these opening days of school. Please review the bullet points below to help us make this school year even better:

  • Make sure your child has 2 masks at school (one on, one extra in their back pack)
  • All students need a water bottle each day at school. Our water fountains are turned off for safety reasons and students must use a water bottle filler.
  • Do not park in the staff parking lot and walk through our bus loading area at any time.
  • If you are walking to school grounds to meet your child after school, wait on the sidewalk behind the bike rack and nearest Center Ave. Do not wait in the blacktop area near the building where our students exit the building.
  • Please do not arrange to have your child walk and meet you at your vehicle offsite. We are not able to supervise them once they have left school grounds and it may create an unsafe situation.
  • Continue to follow our arrival and dismissal procedures and traffic patterns. We will have crossing guards and police assisting us with both of these critical times of day. We appreciate your patience and kindness.
  • If you are in the carline, please help us by displaying the placard sent home today in your passenger window. (Child's Name, Grade, Teacher)
  • Student cell phones are required to be off and in their bookbags. Do not contact your child directly with changes to their transportation. You can make changes to transportation by sending a note with your child or calling the office.
  • Continue to communicate with your child's teacher and the main office should you have questions, need anything, or need to report an absence/early out/late arrival.

Over the weekend check out our PBIS page. Here you will find our schoolwide expectations and our school handbook.

SHIELD Testing

What is SHIELD?

SHIELD is a saliva test that Homewood School District 153 will be utilizing to screen for COVID-19 in our school community. The goal is to catch people who are asymptomatic but positive before they unknowingly spread COVID-19 to others.

Who will be tested?

Unless an opt-out form is turned in to the school nurse, all students and staff will be tested regardless of their vaccination status. All students, regardless of vaccination status, involved in band, choir and all other extra-curricular activities must participate in SHIELD testing in order to be involved in those activities.

How often will testing occur?

Testing will begin at Churchill on Wednesday, September 1st and will take place each week on Wednesdays.

Please watch this video at 2:24 to see the collection process in action. There will be a cart that travels to each homeroom classroom and staff to assist each student.
