Weekly Cougar News
ConVal High School Happenings - February 11, 2021
Message From Principal McKillop
I hope this email finds you well. We have had quite a bit of excitement on campus this week. We welcomed students in our district from AES, FES, GBS, Greenfield, HES, Pierce, TES, and SMS to tour our ATC programs. It was wonderful to have so many future Cougars on campus as they learn about some of the opportunities that will be available for them once they reach high school. A big thank you to our Director of CTE Jen Kiley for planning and coordinating these opportunities for our students. We are also hosting an open house tomorrow on campus from 9:00am-2:00pm. Please consider stopping by to learn more about our CTE programs.
If you have not yet purchased your tickets to our upcoming drama production, Disney's Frozen KIDS, consider visiting the link below to get your tickets before they sell out. Our students have been working so hard practicing, and I am eager to attend the performance.
A bit shout out to all of our athletic teams that continue to compete hard! I have enjoyed attending games and cheering on our teams. We kick off our first event today with our Unified Senior Basketball game on our home court at 3:00pm. There is also Alpine Ski (senior game) this afternoon at 4:00pm and the quarter final state basketball game later this evening at home. Please see below for more detailed information about athletics.
Next week is spirit week on campus. The student council has been updating students with when to wear class colors and different themed days. We have a few fun events planned as well!
Here's to a wonderful weekend.
Best,
Heather

Region 14 and CTE Information/Updates
ATC Application
Students enrolling in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program for the first time for school year 22-23 will need to complete the ATC application before March 18. Why? We want to make sure that students are picking a program that best fits their needs for future success. The application and interview process lets us connect with each student and make sure there’s an understanding of what the program entails and offers. It allows students to get answers to their questions about the program before next year. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Kiley.
February is CTE Month
CTE Month is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
At ConVal, the month is being celebrated by inviting District elementary and middle school students to the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC). Students from Conant and Mascenic also enjoyed visits to the ATC.
Elementary Students Get Curious About Woodwork
On Wednesday, Antrim Elementary School students took a field trip to the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC) to see what kind of classes they might be interested in taking as high school students in the future.
One stop on their tour was Mr. Ewing’s wood shop where students saw how the computer numerical control router (CNC) router was programmed and how it executed computer-given commands on a piece of wood that ultimately spelled out the slogan of Mr. Ewing's class: “Be curious, not judgmental.” The students got to take the plaque back to Antrim Elementary School to display in their class.
