Learning Expectations - Mobile students
2nd Quarter - students need to be seated upright in a chair at a desk or table. Students are not to join calls from their bed or laying on the couch. Please make sure students are in a conducive learning environment in a quiet space and with headphones. We are having issues with students sleeping during class, watching tv during class, being on video games, etc.
If you do not have a table or desk and need to sign out a school student desk and chair for your child, we can arrange for you to pick that up, just please email asauer@southsidecharter.org
Students are to not be dressed in pajamas, bathing suits or tank tops when learning virtually with DCSS.
If we continue to offer virtual learning for 2nd semester, students will be required to be in a school uniform shirt when joining class from home. We had not implemented this previously, as we had many new students who had not had the opportunity to get a uniform from the uniform store. We are providing notice now that this will be a fully mobile/flex model student expectation for 3rd quarter/January.
Model Changes
If you missed the October 9th deadline to change for 2nd quarter, you can fill out a LATE request. They will be reviewed after the 200 requests are processed that were submitted on time. When you get a confirmation, it will state what date the child can begin their new model.
Late request to change models for 2nd quarter:
Health Reminders
Our mask wearing policy has not changed with Florida moving to Phase III. Students and staff are required to wear masks that cover their nose & mouth at all times. When eating students are to be six feet or more apart or using the plexiglass divider. When outside playing students may remove mask once they are six feet apart and they are to remain six feet apart and not congregate, etc.
Any student who experiences symptoms associated with COVID-19 should contact their health care provider immediately and thereafter advise DCSS of any positive diagnosis for COVID-19.
As a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to limit the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others in public settings where social distancing is not feasible.
- Monitor your health daily, be alert for symptoms and stay home when you are sick.
As a school community, we extend our best wishes for the health and safety of all members of our school community.
Please remember that all medications here on campus must be provided to the office staff by an adult, please do not send in with your student. All medication must contain the annual school permission form signed by the doctor.

Arrival / Dismissal
Dismissal - It takes much longer with K and 1 the first few weeks of school, and therefore we start early. Now that students have learned what to do, we need to go back to the end of class time of 3:00pm. Students will now leave their classrooms to come to arrival if their name is on the school pass site at 3pm. Thank you for understanding that we are losing instructional time to continue to start to ready students at 2:45 and 2:50.
Tardy or Signing out Early?
All students signing in after 8:00am will need a parent with them. Middle School students during Covid-19 restrictions will not be signing themselves in tardy as in the past.
Remember:
- Only six people are permitted in the lobby at one time
- If not able to enter, you need to wait on the spray painted stingrays outside
- If arriving for school - answer the wellness check questions on your phone.
- If arriving for school or signing out early, you can check out or check in on the APP!!! Then you just need temp check to drop off, or the child called down to leave early!
These steps help make everything touchless and saves us from all using pens/paper in the lobby that have high contact rates.
If you do not have the App - you will need to have the health questions answered orally, and also wait while Ms. Rita signs your child in or signs your child out with ID check, etc.
