Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Student Led Conferences (SLC)
Thanks for making an effort to attend these sessions last week. Many of you (and the teachers) noticed the children’s growing confidence and how proud they were of their learning. Each year there is a little bit of confusion with some parents as to why the teacher doesn’t feed back more information during the consultation part of the day. This is intentional. The SLC is set up to be a celebration of your child’s learning and development, led and initiated by them. This gives the students ownership of the day and a sense of pride in their school and their learning.
Having read your child’s mid-year report and after attending the SLC, if you still have questions or queries about your child’s progress or learning, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Thank you for your feedback about the SLC. The responses were overwhelmingly positive.
Graffiti Art workshop and Brand HK video launch
Thanks for the incredible support for the art workshop. We already have almost double the number that we can take so unfortunately some students will miss out this time. We will ensure that the class ballot draws are fair and that all participants are informed by Monday. We will pass this information on verbally to students in Years 4 - 6 students and in diaries for Years 1 - 3. We suggest that those children involved bring protective clothing i.e. an old shirt/apron to put on, as we will be using ink paints. The artist Terence ‘Uncle’ Tsang who will run the workshop was chosen to paint the mural based on his creative interpretation of the brief. Uncle Tsang(曾昭昶, also named as Graffiti Uncle is a well-known graffiti artist in Hong Kong. He established the PDW (Paint Da Wall) crew, which is the first group of graffiti artists who can do graffiti legally in HK.
A video has now been produced by BrandHK to promote Hong Kong as a global creative hub. Our graffiti wall features in this! Here is the link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMmR6RixxH8&feature=youtu.be
The mural design is the artist’s interpretation of the city of Hong Kong - where he combined several elements: Hong Kong's skyline, scenic rolling hills, BrandHK’s signature dragon head and ribbon, and the traditional Chinese characters 香港. It will be launched on international news channels (Bloomberg on 20th, other channels to follow), BrandHK website and social media channels. For further promotions with our graffiti design on it click here.

Glenealy Top Tech Tip
Restrictions — often referred to as Parental Controls, let you manage which features, apps, and content your children can and can't access on the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
That includes in-app purchases (IAP). Originally designed to enable extra content like additional levels in games or new issues of magazines, IAP are now routinely used in a casino-like manner — to feed addiction through ego and instant gratification.
Classic examples include free games that lets you spend money to pass levels faster or build better than your friends and rivals. Farmville, Smurf Village, Candy Crush, Clash of Clans, and Pokémon Go have all made their fair share of money using this model.
It can be hard enough for adults who know better to avoid the trap, never mind kids. Luckily, parental controls let you lock out in-app purchases completely. That way, your children are free to play but won't be able to buy any Pokéballs or lucky eggs, saving you from a nasty credit card bill.
