Memorial Day Weekend
The three day weekend (for most of us) is nice, but lets also remember that this is a weekend to honor our veterans and the men and women that have died serving our country and our families. Thank you!

This week the 5th graders are headed off to camp! We are so excited for them!
Friday, June 1st is the Spring Carnival sponsored by the PTO! This is an amazing event that needs parent volunteers to make it a continued success. If you are interested in helping please contact Patricia Saavedra (psaavedra31@yahoo.com ) or Erin Eaton (eatone@gibdist.net) for more information. Please join us to celebrate the end of the school year and kick-off to summer.
Due to not having a construction schedule yet for the new gym and how that will impact the rest of the school over the summer, we will not be doing the summer reading program this year through Chapman. We are hoping to pick this back up once all of our construction has been completed in the upcoming summer.
Student class assignments will be sent out in mid-August. Before the end of the school year, there will be an updated school supply list for each grade level, not specific to a teacher, posted to the website (gibdist.net). I will also post this in my last newsletter for this school year as another way to retrieve it. You may use this as you find great deals over the summer. In August, your child will receive a teacher welcome letter and any additional information that you may need specific to that grade level and/or teacher.
Just a reminder to all families that there is no parent parking in the bus loop. As we end the school year, there will be some events such as field day and class end of the year parties, where parking will be an issue (yes, more than the norm). Authorized vehicles only are allowed in the loop- buses and police. We also use this area during the day at times for students and we want to make sure this is a safe area for them. Also, as we wind down the year, please do not block the streets with parking. You should only park on one side of the road on Olmstead to not block traffic. You possibly will be ticketed if you do so.
If you would like to join the Board or would like to nominate someone, please fill out the attached and send it to the office attention PTO. Our final PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, June 5th at 4:00pm at which time we will vote for next school year. The 2018/2019 PTO Board Nominations form is attached at the bottom of this newsletter.
Since the Buy One Get One book fair was so popular last year, it will return. Mark your calendars for your child to shop during school hours on June 6th, 7th and 8th. Please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time that you can help his/her class shop. Your support has made it possible for EVERY one of our teachers to receive $75 in Scholastic Dollars this past March. They will also be receiving at least $50 to shop in the Fall!
Mark your calendars! Field Day at Chapman will be June 5th! This event is always a highlight to the end of the year. You will not want to miss it.

Parking Lot- Please make sure that you are adhering to all the parking lot safety rules. In the morning, please pull up to the second cone in the drop off area. Patience is the key to ensure the safety of our students. Chapman staff and safeties are there to help starting at 8:33 AM. In the afternoon, I know that it is difficult to find parking, but PLEASE do not create your own parking spots, do not park in the loop in front of the school and do not park in the bus loop. We are having continuous conversations about how to make the situation better... we are still looking for solutions. Please remember to be kind to and patient with staff and other parents. We are all in this together.
Chapman is in need of lunch monitors! If you are interested in being a monitor for a few hours of the day, please contact Maria D'Alfonso or Brian Bahr in food service. The number is 734-379-7620. You can also contact me at 734-379-6380 and I can help with this process.
