Building with 3D Shapes
We need your help!!! Next week we are continuing our unit on 3D shapes and would like to give the students an opportunity to build with 3D shapes. Ask your child what they plan to build and send in items to help. We have briefly spoken about this. If you look on Pinterest with your child, they may see some awesome creations. We will make animals, robots, castles, bridges etc. We will "plan" our design and build the rest of the week.
Below are a list of possible items that we are in need of for next Monday, March 1st. Please feel free to send in whatever you have for your child and extra to share. Make sure your child knows what is theirs and what is to share please. Teachers will provide construction paper, paint, hot glue, markers, crayons etc. If your child brings in boxes for their creation, consider wrapping it with the color of paper they desire in advance. For example, if they are making a pink castle, please wrap all the boxes prior to sending them in, it will help a BUNCH! (Imagine for a short minute that 16 5-year-olds are all needing your help at one time....and go from there!) This is one of their favorite projects of the year and we LOVE helping them, but anything you can do in advance to reduce chaos is much appreciated!!
Possible 3D Shape items:
-small boxes (Kleenex, cereal, kids shoe boxes or tissue boxes-for buildings, bodies and heads--consider pre-wrapping these if your child has a "vision" in mind)
-masking tape
-duct tape
-fun patterned tape
-toilet paper or paper towel rolls-colored or plain
-small plastic dixie cups
-paper to wrap with
-ping pong balls
-cotton balls, pom poms and buttons
-items shaped like cones, spheres, cubes and cylinders
Any other items your child would like to include in their creation!

Just a Few Reminders...
The Kinder team wanted to send out a few reminders that will help all students be successful and reach the best possible potential in Kindergarten this year. As always, please let us know if you need clarification or help!
- Arrive by 7:35 so students can unpack and be ready to learn at the tardy bell at 7:40. Doors open at 7:25.
- Send a separately packed HEALTHY bite-sized snack each day. No cookies, candy, or large snacks that will make a mess in our classroom
- Check your child's folder nightly. Initial when your child's teacher has made a note for the day.
- Empty yellow folder and check your child's work. Are there notes? Stickers? Did your child complete it successfully?
- Have your child read the book in the bookbag EACH night 2-3 times. For a total of 4-6 times prior to getting a new book. Many students are not reading each night and therefore will not reach their reading potential for the year.
- Practice quickly reading and writing yellow trick words until mastered. Then move on to red, green, and orange sight words. Yellow sight words will be coming in a few weeks.
- If your child is a master at ALL THE THINGS, they can read additional books on Raz Kids (Reading A-Z) on their iPad. This app reads to them, allows them to record themselves reading, and asks comprehension questions.
- CHARGE the iPad each night. Be sure to keep the charger in your child's backpack if they are frequently forgetting to charge it each night so we can help them at school.
- Keep new masks in your child's backpack for when they soil the one they wore to school. Check and replace as needed.
