December Emotional Intelligence
2023 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
This season, often marked by joy and celebration, can also be a period of reflection and understanding for those around us. Empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, is more than just a virtue; it's a bridge that connects us, fostering deeper relationships and a more compassionate community. During December, as we engage in holiday festivities and family gatherings, let's also be mindful of those around us who may be experiencing different emotions. This month offers a unique chance to teach our children the importance of empathy. Encourage them to think about their friends, classmates, and even strangers who might be facing challenges during this time. It could be someone who is missing a loved one, someone who is away from family, or someone who doesn't celebrate the holidays. Small acts of kindness, understanding, and inclusion can make a significant difference in their lives. Let's also remember to practice empathy within our own homes. The end-of-year rush can be overwhelming, and it's important to listen to and support each other. Recognizing and respecting each other's feelings, especially during busy times, strengthens family bonds. As we celebrate this season of giving, let's give the gift of empathy. It costs nothing, yet its value is immense. By demonstrating empathy, we not only enrich our own lives but also light up the lives of those around us, making this truly the season of goodwill.
EQ Highlights Across the District
Highlighting Emotional Intelligence across McAllen ISD fosters a more empathetic, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. It enhances students' self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills, improving their emotional well-being and relationships. Educators become better equipped to address students' emotional needs, leading to enhanced academic and social outcomes.
Elementary Highlights
Sanchez Elementary was one of the many campuses in McAllen ISD to celebrate Emotional Intelligence with Gratitude Week. Every grade level worked hard to grow their Emotional Intelligence by creating gratitude cards for their families, peers, and local Veterans. Additionally, our elementary schools had the opportunity to honor our Veterans in an assembly, with performances dedicated to these local heroes.
