New Jersey State Graduation Testing Requirements

The State Department of Education has released the graduation testing requirements for the Classes of 2017-2021. These were approved on August 3, 2016.

For the 2017, 2018, and 2019 classes, the requirements have not changed. Students must pass one of the three years of the PARCC exam in both English Language Arts and Mathematics or have a passing score on an alternative assessment such as the SAT, ACT, PSAT, etc. If a student does not satisfy the testing requirement, they must complete a portfolio assessment in order to graduate.

For the Class of 2020, the alternative assessments can be used to satisfy the requirement IF they have taken all PARCC assessments for which they were eligible. In essence, the state is requiring all students to sit for the PARCC test each year in order to graduate.

For the Class of 2021 and thereafter, students must achieve a passing score on the ELA 10 and Algebra 1 PARCC test. If they do not do so, they can complete a portfolio assessment IF AND ONLY IF they have taken all PARCC assessments, i.e. ELA 9, 10, 11 and Albegra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child's Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, or Mr. Finkle.

Attention Junior Parents

Please ask your child about the Junior Guidance Presentation. It is recommended that you review the timeline that was distributed to students regarding important events during their Junior year. The presentation is posted on the Guidance webpage and on the Naviance homepage.

Delran Achieves Sustainability Certification

Delran, NJ – Two schools in the Delran Township School District have met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification. These schools join a group of 83 schools that achieved the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification in 2016. A total of 538 schools and 218 school districts are participating in the program overall.

The two schools that have achieved certification are: Delran High School and Millbridge Elementary School.

Sustainable Jersey for Schools is voluntary, but achieving certification is not easy. Schools collaborate with their school district to complete actions, upload documentation and achieve certification. “Becoming certified with Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a significant achievement for schools and their school district,” said Donna Drewes, co-director of Sustainable Jersey. “They are leaders in implementing sustainability measures that save money, improve the learning environment, and prepare today’s students to address the challenges of tomorrow.” Each school that is certified at the bronze-level must submit documentation to show it has completed a balanced portfolio of the program’s sustainability actions, achieving a minimum of 150 points. Silver-level certification requires that a school attain 350 points or more.

Certified schools excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency and health and wellness, integrating sustainability into student learning and reducing waste. Randall Solomon, co-director of the Sustainable Jersey program congratulated the certified schools, “I commend the schools that have achieved certification for their demonstrated commitment toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey.”

“We are proud of the leadership provided by the boards of education and their superintendents, as well as the contributions of principals, teachers, education support professionals and parents, that made this important milestone a reality,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, New Jersey School Boards Association executive director. “We congratulate the schools on achieving Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification.” Delran and the certified schools were honored at a reception during the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) Workshop 2016 Conference on October 25 in Atlantic City.
