What it is:
Gun Control refers to laws and policies that ensure safety when talking about the manufacturing, selling, transferring, possessing, modifying or using of fire arms.
Martin O’Malley believes that gun control is a good thing.
He supports restrictions on the right to bear arms.
He believes in preventing unauthorized fire arm use with “smart gun” technology.
He believes in banning assault weapons, limiting clip size, and requiring finger prints in order to purchase guns.
He believes in further toughening the enforcement of our gun laws.
Reasons:
*2000- Mayor O'Malley oversaw a significant reduction in crime, getting the number of Baltimore's homicides under 300 for the first time in a decade.
* Under his leadership, Maryland made sweeping investments in public safety, college education, affordable healthcare, and economic growth. The state recovered 100 percent of the jobs lost during the national recession, and was one of only seven states to maintain an AAA bond rating.
*2013- Passed the Firearm Safety Act Of 2013, one of the toughest firearms laws in the nation.
Budget and the Economy
What it is:
A budget is an estimate of income and expenses for a set period of time. In the context of politics, budget is how much money the government can expect to bring in and spend within a certain amount of time.
The economy is the wealth and resources of a certain area, especially in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services.
Martin O’Malley believes that the middle class should be stronger.
He believes that economic injustices is tearing our country apart.
He believes that tax reductions and regulatory reforms to help create jobs.
He believes in fighting banks that are too big to jail and too big to fail.
He believes in closed $1.7 billion budget deficit over 7 years.
He believes in limiting budget growth to below inflation.
He believes in middle out economics instead of trickle-down economics.
Reasons:
* 2005- Achieved the city's first budget surplus in decades and cut property taxes to the lowest level in 30 years.
* Under his leadership, Maryland made sweeping investments in public safety, college education, affordable healthcare, and economic growth. The state recovered 100 percent of the jobs lost during the national recession, and was one of only seven states to maintain an AAA bond rating.
* 2014- Increased the state's minimum wage for most workers to $10.10.
