Luxmanor Online
I hope you are all healthy and safe at home. It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over. I wish we could have come back to school to say goodbye to our 5th graders and wish all of our students a safe and fun summer.
Today, I received information regarding the closing of the school year. Our staff will be coming to school on Thursday, June 4th and Friday, June 5th to begin packing up their rooms and closing out the school year. There will be no live instruction on these two days. Teachers will communicate with you the work that will be completed on these two days by students. During this time, we will also be bagging up any student items that are currently in the building - items in their desks, artwork, headphones, etc. I will send out a schedule for when you can drop by to pick up these items. This will be scheduled after June 16th. The school system is putting together the plans for this distribution. I will send out our plan as soon as it is finalized. I should also find out next week if we will end our school year one early as previously scheduled to allow the staff to finish packing for our move.
At this time, I do not know what the start of the next school year will look like. As soon as the information is known, MCPS will communicate this information with all of us and I will be in touch to share what this will look like for Luxmanor.
We will move into the new building over the summer. I am hopeful that I can plan time over the summer for the community to visit the new building. This will based off feedback from the State and MCPS.
Several staff members have recorded themselves reading books for our students to enjoy. These recordings can be found on the Luxmanor website.
I would like to thank Yelisa Rojas, our PTA President, for all of the work you have done this school year in support of Luxmanor! Beyond running our PTA meetings and making sure our PTA events continue, you also do a lot of work behind the scenes that benefit both our school and the school system. Thank you also to the entire PTA Executive Committee and all of our committee chairs and members for all of your work on behalf of our students.
I hope all of you have a safe and healthy summer. If your family needs assistance over the summer with anything, please let me know so I can work with MCPS and county agencies to provide the services that your family needs. Below you will find additional information that I hope you will find useful as we continue our online learning. I look forward to our return to school!
Sincerely,
Ryan D. Forkert

GT Identification
Due to the extended emergency school closure for the remainder of the school year, the GT identification process for the 2019-2020 school year has transitioned from a school based to a central office based process. Parent letters indicating the decision made by the central office regarding gifted and talented identification will be mailed late August 2020. If your student did not meet the GT Identification criteria this year, and you would like to request that your student participate in the next opportunity for rescreening, please complete the Parent Request for Rescreen Google form at: https://bit.ly/request_rescreen by Monday, August 24, 2020.
