NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
Dear Parents & Guardians,
This year, Lake Denoon is starting a National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Chapter. National Junior Honor Society is an organization that is focused on service to others, maintaining high academic standing, and being role model students with behavior and citizenship. Eighth grade students who embody the qualities of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service were invited to learn more about NJHS during a resource period in October. At this meeting, all of those eligible students were given application packets that they could have completed if they would have liked to be considered as an NJHS member for the remainder of this school year.
Any current eighth grade students not invited this eighth grade school year are encouraged to think about how they can better embody the four qualities of NJHS members so that they can potentially be eligible to apply to National Honor Society (NHS) once they get to high school. Additionally, parents of fifth, sixth and seventh graders should help support and encourage their child to be role model citizens and students so that they may be eligible for NJHS when the time for them to apply before 8th grade comes.
If you have any questions about Lake Denoon’s NJHS chapter, please contact Ms. Stephanie Fote at stephanie.fote@muskegonorway.org or 262-971-1820 ext. 7218.

First Quarter Recognition Day
On Tuesday, November 26, we will have 6th - 8th Grade Recognition Day from 1:00 PM - 3:05 PM. Students in sixth through eighth grade who did not have any Ds, Fs, three or more detentions, or one or more disciplinary referrals during 1st quarter will be eligible for our in-building activities. Students who are ineligible will be assigned to directed study during the activities. Students will be picking their choice of an activity the week of November 4. Some activities will require students to bring supplies and/or pay a fee (usually between $1 - $10 depending on the activity).
This year, 5th grade students who meet Recognition Day criteria for first quarter will be receiving information from their homeroom teacher about their event separate from grades 6-8. Fifth grade parents should watch for more information soon.
UPCOMING VISION SCREENING
Muskego-Norway School District offers vision screening for Kindergarten, First grade, Third grade, Fifth grade and, upon request, for all grades.

OFF-CAMPUS PASSES
If your student must leave the building during school hours for an appointment, please review the following process to ensure the least amount of disruption to classroom activities as possible.
- Your student must bring a written excuse to the Student Services upon arriving at school in the morning (i.e. before school starts) so that a pass can be issued. With this pass, the student can leave the classroom at the time they are to be picked up, and office staff can avoid interrupting learning by calling into the rooms.
- Please do not e-mail teachers with attendance or dismissal requests. All attendance goes through Student Services.
- In the event of a last minute appointment and you need to pick up your student, please contact Student Services. They will notify the student and provide a pass for release.
- Lastly, in regard to messages for students: If you wish to have the office convey a message to your student, please call before 2:30 p.m. It is very difficult to track down students late in the day.
Attendance and Guidance News
As of October 31, 2019, 79% of students at Lake Denoon Middle School have missed less than 2 full days of school! Keep up the good work! The majority of the absences at LDMS so far this year have been due to illness or appointments. While we can’t always prevent children from getting sick and we certainly want sick children to stay home and get better, we also want them in school whenever they can be. Here are the Guidelines for keeping sick children home.
Please contact Amanda Rosman at 414-524-9117 (call or text message) with extraordinary circumstances that may impact your child’s attendance. A referral can be made to the district nurse for further intervention as needed.
FALL FUN HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES
