WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS
Recess in Colder Weather
The winter weather arrived this past week. Please note that the students go out to recess as long as the “real feel” temperature is at 15 degrees Fahrenheit or above. When the weather is just at or above 15 degrees we often shorten the outdoor recess to 10 minutes or so. When outdoor recess is canceled the students are provided with indoor recess in the classroom that includes but is not limited to social time and board games.
The children DO go outside to play in the snow during recess when the temperature allows. Please be sure to send your child to school with proper snow gear, including snow pants, snow boots, a winter coat, hat and gloves. Be sure to label all gear with your child’s name. If there is snow on the ground only those children with proper gear will be allowed to play in the snow. Any child who does not have snow gear will have to play on the blacktop, which is cleared of snow, while snow remains on the field.
Weather Delays, Early Dimissals, and Cancellations
The district notifies families of these events via email and telephone call with the primary contact information that is in Aspen. If you did not receive the notifications from this past Monday and Tuesday, please contact the Julian Curtiss main office staff to ensure that your information is correct.
There are several other alternate notification methods just in case. Here are a few options:
NBC Connecticut First Alert Closing Central (email and/or text)
Information regarding delays and closings is also always available via the Greenwich Public Schools website at www.greenwichschools.org.
PARENT CONFERENCE REMINDERS
There will be an early dismissal on Tuesday, December 10th at 12:45. All after school child care providers WILL be open. If there is a change to your child's dismissal plan for that day, please make sure it is entered in School Dismissal Manager before 11:00 am.
The remaining parent conferences will take place on Thursday, December 12th after school.
If have not yet met with your child's teacher and you do not have an appointment, please contact the teacher as soon as possible to schedule a meeting.
After you meet with your child's teacher, you will be asked to complete a two-question survey about your conference. Please bring this survey to the office after your conference. There is a black basket on the counter to collect your responses.
Thank you for your partnership!
FAMILIES AS PARTNERS IN LEARNING
WE WANT TO HELP, BUT YOU KNOW YOUR CHILD BEST
When it comes to knowing how your child is progressing in school, you have several puzzle pieces to put together. You know what makes him/her light up and what causes him/her frustration. Report cards reflect your child’s effort and progress toward learning goals but there are other tools teachers rely on to determine students’ grade level. All of these pieces are important to understanding your child’s progress and achievement so you can support learning skills at home. Please complete this questionnaire by Sunday, December 1st. The questionnaire is available below in electronic format. Hard copies will also be made available at the parent workshop and are attached as printable files below.
