Causes and Complications

Autism is a disease of abnormalities in brain structure and function, but no one is 100% sure the exact cause. It is a genetically based condition and whether or not there are certain environmental triggers is still being determined. Someone with Autism faces many different complications throughout there life, starting with the possible inability to take care of them self. When they are younger, they often aren't responsive to normal teaching methods, they are uncomfortable and reject social interaction which will complicate relationships, they sometimes have self inflicted injuries, and are at a higher risk for seizures.



Description

  • Don't develop/have attachment to toys or intermediate family
  • Don't make eye contact, ever, uncomfortable with physical contact
  • Haven't developed speech, unresponsive to normal teaching methods
