Eighth Grade Newsletter

March 16, 2014

Dear Parents,

The third marking period ends Friday, March 21. Students should use Powerschool to check their grades and see if they have any missing assignments.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Anna Zahner who finished second in the Regional Spelling Bee this afternoon at the State Theater in Traverse City. Way to go, Anna!

Students should have a Holocaust related book (fiction or non-fiction) that they are reading outside of class. I have asked them to be halfway through the book by Tuesday, when we will have our second book discussion groups. We will be focused on taking and organizing notes for their research papers this week. Students can access all the information in my iTunes U course. You can access it on an iPad by clicking here: https://itunesu.itunes.apple.com/audit/COEE3X8ZK5 or finding the Charlevoix Public Schools listing in the iTunes U app.

We are continuing our study of The Earth's Plates. Students will be working on a research project on plate boundaries and the types of landforms, and natural disasters they can cause. This project will be due later in the week. Thanks for all your support.

Middle school track practice begins after Spring Break. Students will need to have a current physical on file to participate. Physical forms are available in the office.

Washington DC Trip

If you are still planning to register your child for the trip, which is May 6-10, the best thing to do is click the button below and register with a credit card online. Our trip ID is 90387.

Please keep in mind that we do everything we can to ensure that students are assigned to a room with at least one friend of their choosing. There will be four students per room. Our entire group spends most of the tour together, so students will be with friends even if they are not assigned to the same room. Students who register at the last minute may not get their first choice of room if it means displacing other students.

The last day to turn in Oleson's slips for 8th graders is Thursday, March 27!
