IBJ Family Updates for the Week of May 23. 2022
Principal Corner
We have 10 days of school left!
Ira B. Jones Families:
We are in the home stretch of this school year. Our last school day is June 7; students will dismiss at noon. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will start taking End of Grade Tests (EOGs) this week. The Reading test is on Tuesday, and the Science test (5th only) is on Friday. Families can help support their students by making sure students get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, make sure they are at school no later than 7:55 am, and encourage them to do their best on the test. We don't want students stressed about the test. They have worked hard this year, and the EOGs tests are only one measure of their success as a student.
End of Year Testing Information
End of Grade Testing for grades 3-5: All grades 3-5 students will be taking either the End of Grade (EOG) tests or the NC-Extend I tests. If you are unsure which tests your students are taking, don't hesitate to contact their classroom teacher(s). Students in grades 3-5 take reading and math, while fifth grade students also take science. It is important that students be present and on time each morning. Students must be in their classrooms each morning by 8:00 am. If your student is a car rider or walker and has been getting here right around 8:00, please plan on leaving home earlier.
Here are the dates you need to know:
Tuesday, May 24: Grades 3-5 EOG Test in Reading
Wednesday, May 25: Grades 3-5 NC Extend I
Thursday, May 26: Grades 3-5 NC Extend I
Friday, May 27: Grade 5 EOG Test in Science/ Grade 3 Read to Achieve Test (for select third grade students)
Tuesday, May 31: Grades 3-5 NC Extend I
Wednesday, June 1: Grades 3-5 EOG Test in Mathematics
It is also important to know that in order to facilitate testing for 3-5 students, students in grades K-5 may experience shifts to their classroom, lunch, recess, and special schedules.

Our Outdoor Classroom
I want to send an update regarding our Outdoor Classroom. I left out a parent who deserves a "thank you" and credit for helping our school get an outdoor classroom. Jeff Hall, a former Jones parent, was instrumental in starting this project and writing the grant that helped fund our new classroom.
A HUGE THANK YOU to ALL involved in helping make our outdoor classroom happen!
