On March 20th the school district will be celebrating the International Day of Happiness in all of our buildings. That night our third grade students are invited to our Camp Avenue Sweetheart Dance. March 25-26 Grades 3 and 5 will participate in the NYS ELA Assessments and Grades 4 and 6 will participate in them on March 26-27.
Please remember we do not have school on March 12th for Parent Teacher Conferences, which are scheduled from 12:00 - 7:00 PM. You and the classroom teacher will be able to discuss your child's performance in the classroom and the progress he/she has made this year. All report cards will be accessible to parents of students in grades 1-6 on March 11th after 3:00 pm on the parent portal.
Our next PTA meeting will be at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, March 18th. I hope you can join us.
As always, I look forward to seeing you throughout the month.
Sincerely,
Hillary Bromberg, Ed.D.

Character Education through Literacy
February focused on the character trait: Honesty. We are proud of the abundance of students who had their names put into the "grade level jars" this month. We have so many honest students here at Camp Avenue. Great job to all of our students who were "caught" being honest.
March will focus on the character trait: Individuality; be proud of who you are!
Did You Know we Have a Direct Absence Line?
Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.
Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.
