CCES Weekly Newsletter
For the week of: January 17th
4 Day School Week
This month is going fast. We are already on the downside of January and almost to the 100th day of school which is Wednesday, January 26th. We are past the hustle and bustle of the holidays but now we will be entering the downslide of the school year. This is the time when we start talking about state testing and the 5-Essentials Survey.
WHAT IS THE 5ESSENTIALS SURVEY?
The 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that lead to improved outcomes for all students, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
The five indicators that positively affect school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Research derived from the Five Essentials for School Success has proven that schools strong
on at least three of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.
Schools across Illinois participated in the Ninth annual 5Essentials Survey of Learning Conditions: Organizing Schools for Improvement this past academic year. This survey generates valuable data
that districts can use to guide their ongoing efforts to improve schools and to offer students an excellent education. The survey is another improvement tool that allows districts and the state to share data as a means to inform parents and community members about the school’s learning environment.
There is a link below to participate in the survey. We encourage all of our families to do so.
Please take the time to read Dr. Bugg's weekly newsletter. Of course the letter has important COVID-19 information but it also talks about Senate Bill 1577 which talks about mental health days.
We understand that sometimes students are not feeling well (not COVID related) and just have a cold. Please remember that students should not be bringing over the counter medicine (including cough drops) to take during the day.
We don't have school on Monday, January 17th in observance on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. So we will see everyone on Tuesday, January 18th. On Friday, January 21st, we are having Hat Day. I hope everyone can find a favorite hat to wear that day.
Enjoy the 3 day weekend!

School Buses
- stay in seats
- no screaming
- hands and feet to self
- no eating or drinking
- wear a mask at all times
The bus drivers have a very important job of getting the students to and from school safely and distractions need to be kept to a minimum.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
DOORS OPEN AT 7:55
Drop-Off- Remember W. Second Street is a one way street going east.
Drop off and pickup will be on the south side of the building on W. Second Street. For the safety of all of the children that are being dropped off and picked up, please pull into the no parking zone (parallel to the road) and let your child exit the vehicle. We ask that you then exit the spot and pull forward onto the street again. Parents should not be exiting their vehicle this year, as it will be a continuous drop and go lane.
Pick-Up
- Pickup will also be along W. Second Street. It will be a pick up and go as well. There will be no parking, so the first several cars will be pulling into the no parking zone and waiting until dismissal. From there, cars will fill in as cars leave. Teachers will be out with their classrooms making sure that students are getting into their parents vehicle in a safe manner.
