CARLSON COURIER
Home of the Champions: Work Together, Win Together!
Hello Champion Families,
In case you missed it, here is a quick recap of last week. We finished gifted testing all 2nd graders and any in grades 3 - 6 that requested it. Additionally, 6th graders listened to presentations by both Payne and Santan Junior highs to discuss schedules and the different courses offered. Also, last week Zohair Monsoor represented Carlson in the district's first ever virtual Spelling Bee. Congrats on making it Zohair and we should know the results next week sometime; fingers crossed! Then, we finished the week off with club pictures for yearbook and a sweet treat courtesy of our amazing PTO volunteers. Students that participated received a bag of Popcornopolis and some Juice to celebrate a successful week.
Coming up this week we have just a couple things on the calendar. First up, teachers will be sending out their sign up links for parent teacher conferences starting Monday afternoon. All conferences will be held virtually on Wednesday February 10th and Thursday February 11th. Next, is an Anti-Bullying presentation put on by the Attorney General's office on Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:00pm. A link to the presentation will be sent out Wednesday. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Thelen (see Counseling Corner for contact info). Thursday is Spring Picture Day. We, unfortunately, are not doing class pictures due to COVID and safety precautions, however, we are still doing individual pictures and students will be able to remove their masks for those. Finally, 6th grade registration for Junior High is happening on Friday.
Typically, during normal school years, this is the time where we begin planning for next year. The intent to return survey, current registrations, and open enrollment process helps give us an idea of how many students we can expect for the following year. These numbers are then used to project staffing needs at each site. This year is a bit unique in that it has created some unknowns. So, what I need help with is getting the word out to families that are interested in attending Carlson or former families that are currently at COA, chose to homeschool, switched schools for various reasons, etc. so we can make sure they have a spot at Carlson if they are planning on returning. We will begin contacting them personally as well but know that space is limited and filling up as we speak. For any of you that haven't yet, please be sure to complete the intent to return form and or register any new students you may have; kinder especially. Also, I am including a Google Form below for anyone that would like to help us and provide a short testimonial about any positive experiences you've had at Carlson or something you especially love about the school. Students are welcome to participate as well with parent permission of course. Thank you again for all your help and support over these past few weeks. We are forever grateful for the kindness and grace you have shown all year. Here's to another great week of learning and growth for our Champions!
Sincerely,
Mr. Morgan
