Remote Learning Updates
4/20/2020
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians of the Upper Adams Middle School,
I would like to share with you an update regarding middle school assignments and classes. We continue to work and adjust in order to better meet the needs of our learners. Our priority is the connectedness and care for our students and teachers as we maintain continuity of learning.
ENDING THE THIRD QUARTER
The last day of the third quarter was April 10th. It was our intent to give students an extended opportunity to complete missing assignments assigned prior to the March 13th shutdown. We recognize that our students and families may be experiencing difficult circumstances. These circumstances continue to be taken into consideration as we use the traditional grading scale when assessing student work for the third quarter. Teachers will continue to communicate with students via email/Google Classroom and online meeting times. They will also provide details on instruction, answer questions, and provide the necessary feedback to students during the day as we continue into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER ASSESSMENT
We understand that there are factors outside of the control of the school system with learning being moved off-site; therefore, the aim is that student grades are not lowered as a result of remote learning. Quarter three has ended and quarter four officially began on April 14th. Quarter four will track engagement and task completion with students having flexible due dates and the opportunity to re-submit assignments in order to show the intended level of engagement. Levels of engagement and completion will be assessed on a 4,3,2,1 scale with the following criteria for each:
4-Highly Engaged
actively participates on a regular basis by attending all/most learning sessions
consistently completes high-quality work/tasks in a timely manner
Learning expectations are exceeded.
3-Engaged
participates by attending some learning sessions
completes work/tasks in an adequate manner regularly
Learning expectations are met.
2-Partially Engaged
minimally participates and attends learning sessions on an irregular basis
completes some work/tasks and the work is inadequate
Learning expectations are partially met.
1-Not Yet Engaged
not engaged in the learning process and does not attend learning sessions
does not complete tasks/work
Learning expectations are not yet met.
Student feedback will be communicated through Google Classroom with more details communicated by the teachers. We will not be entering information into Powerschool until the end of quarter four. We encourage all parents to enroll in all Google Classrooms to receive teacher feedback and track assignment completion.
Thank you for your support and feedback by taking the below remote learning survey. Please let us know how we can provide more help and support:

Counselor's Corner
I've also included the introductory video that the students will see. This was made in 2015, and the message continues to gain momentum in our national educational system. If anything can sum up how I feel I can best meet the district motto of "All Students College and Career Ready" it's this Success in the New Economy video.
Students, I will be sending out access information so you can get started this week. Happy job hunting, everyone!
