HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 2 May 10 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents/Guardians
While Richard Rohr’s thinking here can be seen as a blunt assessment in terms of the choices we make, the opportunity is there to see it as inspiration to live and love life.
Much has taken place since we have returned, and there is much to give thanks for. Rob Flexman’s great organisation and planning for our team in today’s Interschool Swimming Carnival was awesome. To the teachers and parents who assisted, thank you. To the many children involved, training before school, doing their best to be ready to give of their best, more power to you. Thank you so much.
To our Holy Rosary Community members who organised the presentation by Dr Kristy Goodwin last Thursday to which almost 140 people attended, to those who conducted a purge of the old P&F room in the hall, and relocated everything useful to the gym store room (much closer to where everything happens these days), and to the initiative to restart the local playgroup (which was foundering) in our hall from next week (and who will move their equipment in to the space which has been vacated) what a remarkable series of events, and, last but by no means least, for organising the Mothers Day morning tea and raffle after Mass. This is life giving stuff. Thank you, thank you.
Photos were again a successful experience, if intense, and thanks go to you all for having your children looking the part, as well as to Assistant Principal Geordie for organising and managing such a complex process.
If you were at the Kindy Mothers' Day celebration, it is unlikely you will ever forget it! Congratulations to all of them, and to Marisa Amoroso, who taught them all to sing like birds!
And to our Year Three gang who prepared our Mother’s Day whole school mass this morning, to Father Peter who proclaimed so well – as he always does – and to Michelle Kirwan and her awesome choir – a reverent and beautiful liturgy. Thank you all.
We have much to celebrate and appreciate.
Have a lovely weekend. See you at the Year Five Catherine assembly next Friday, 8.55am.

HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS
MOTHER’S DAY
It was lovely to see so many Mums at Mother’s Day Mass and Morning Tea! Thank you to the Holy Rosary Community and parent helpers for arranging the gathering and to the generous Holy Rosary Businesses and families for donating raffle prizes to help spoil our mums.
🐞 COME ALONG TO PLAYGROUP! 🐞
** STARTING MONDAY 13 MAY **
If you have children in 3- or 4-year-old Kindy, come along on Monday and try Playgroup!! One of our aims is to provide a social setting where Holy Rosary parents can get to know each better and where children have the opportunity to form deeper friendships at school.
And of course, parents are welcome to bring a friend from outside of the school!
We hope to see you on Monday, 13 May - the sessions are from 9.30 am to 11.30 am in the hall, during term time. Tea and coffee are provided; please bring a morning tea for your child. There are heaps of great toys to play with!
SEEKING GROUP OF PARENTS TO ARRANGE SOME FUN!
Last year we had A LOT of fun at Musical Bingo. And the year before we had A LOT of fun at Bogan Bingo.
What should we do this year?
The last two events were a team effort – parents getting together and having fun planning the fun. Others quickly join in when things start to happen! Meetings on lounge carpets, in cafes, in the parking lot… you know how it is!
We’re thinking end of Term 2.
If you have a group of people willing to lead the charge, we know you won’t be short of helpers.
Let us know via the office or Messenger and we’ll be in touch!
WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN 2019
We have again registered for the Woolworths Earn and Learn program. Between 1 May and 25 June 2019 please collect as many stickers as you can. (For every $10 spent at Woolworths you get a sticker.) The more stickers we receive the more equipment we will get from Modern Teaching Aids.
BAKERS DELIGHT WOODLANDS FUNDRAISER
Remember to say: “That’s for Holy Rosary” every time you purchase from Bakers Delight Woodlands. They give back 10% of all our purchases for the year!
Last year we raised close to $1,000 for our school.
Raising children in a Digital World
Last Thursday, 2nd May the HRC had the pleasure of hosting Dr Kristy Goodwin as she delivered her talk Raising children in a Digital World. The talk was very well received from both Holy Rosary Parents and the wider community that attended. Kristy has very kindly provided us with a number of links to some notes from the talk, links to free webinars and some other helpful tools. The links are included below for your reference.
The HRC want to say a special thanks to one of our PP parents, Damien John and his company, One 20 Productions for kindly donating the use of all the audio and visual equipment on the night. It was greatly appreciated and the gym looked fantastic! Thank you Damien!
Please find more information below:
link to access the FREE eBook summary
link to access the FREE pornography webinar (parents can watch this anywhere and anytime and also access a PDF summary sheet too, after they've registered);
link to access the recommended apps Kristy shared on the night (plus some other app checklists and tips); (see below for documents)
PDF document with some information about the Switched on Parents' Portal (SOPP).
As a way of further supporting your families Kristy offer schools who've booked her to speak a 25% discount on a school licence for SOPP. A school licence provides all families with 12-months of unlimited access to the portal, where they can find videos of seminars (including the one I presented last week and the boy seminar you heard me deliver last year) and webinar recordings, online masterclasses, eBooks and it's a place where they can ask me their questions about kids in a digital world.
