Comparative Poetry Analysis

Introduction
Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful. Poems often use things like word choice, figurative language, and structure and form. Most poems have these including the ones I am talking about "Problems with Hurricanes" and "Sleeping in the Forest".
Tone and Word Choice
Both of the poets have words that clearly express how they feel. In the poem "Problems with Hurricanes" the author respects the storm and nature using a formal tone throughout the whole poem except for in lines 12-13 when he shows humor by saying "The generations that you got killed by a flying Banana." This poem is also free verse and has lots of different line lengths. On the other hand the poem "Sleeping in the Forest" shows a formal tone throughout the whole poem and chooses words with lots of powerful feeling such as "...luminous doom..."
Figurative Language
There are many different types of figurative language that poets use. Some of the figurative language Victor Hernandez Cruz does not use a lot of figurative language in the poem itself, however the whole poem is a metaphor about the dangers of life. On the other hand in "Sleeping in the forest she uses lots of figurative language such in the beginning of the poem " I thought the earth remembered me she took be back so tenderly ." This is a example of personification although she uses lots of different types of figurative language throught the poem.
Form and Structure
Form and Structure not only play an important part in how the poem looks but also how its read. In the poem " Problems with Hurricanes" the structure is free verse but it is all formated to the left side, there is also no ryming. The lines very in length along with how many lines are in a stanza. The poem "Sleeping in the Forest" is a free verse poem with no ryming, theres only rythm in lines 1-3. The lines are simialr length thier is only one stanza. Poems can be very structured but can also be very free verse.
Conclusion
Poems and poets styles and meanings are very different in every poem but can yet all be similar. Poets use word choice, form and structure, and figurative language to convey these things.“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”
