VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 8 TERM 1 2019
SCHOOL GOAL: INITIATIVE
Initiative is being asked to do things by yourself without being asked to.
Signs of Success:
* Your teacher/parents can rely on you to do a job without being asked to
* People might say ‘you are a helpful person’
* You might get a comment on your report ‘a responsible, mature student’
* You are often asked to do important jobs for people
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another great week of learning at VS and it has been awesome to get around the rooms and see the high engagement we have. The Seniors with their cross grouping for maths - this is going really well, the Middles with their reading rotations in class and working towards learning goals and the Juniors loving the chance to write! What great learning we have happening at VS!
A reminder about our Progress Reports and Learning Conferences coming up in the last week of this term (10th and 11th April). We aim to have 100% attendance to these very important meetings. See further down for the online booking website and booking codes. Also on both of these days we will be closing at 2pm. We ask that you pick up your child(ren) at 2pm on both these days. The reason for closing at this time is so we can make as many booking times available as possible for whanau to book in.
Most summer sports are beginning to wrap up as we move into winter sports codes. I encourage you to get your child(ren) involved in winter sports - there are many options available. There is nothing better than a hot coffee and watching your child having fun on the sports field! See Mrs Sleep junior and her information about below about how to get involved.
We frequently use the school Facebook page to update and share with our community. We have turned off Facebook Messenger as a way of communicating with the school. We have several other ways you can contact us - by phoning the office on 06 753 6843, text or call on 021 753 680, or use the Skool Loop app which is completely free and available to download on both Apple and Android phones. These newsletters and our school website are also great ways to keep up to date.
ENROLMENTS AT VOGELTOWN
If your child is turning 5 soon and you are planning on bringing them to Vogeltown, then please can you get an enrolment pack from the office and get the form in.
As part of planning for class sizes and maintaining good student to teacher class ratios, we need to know what enrolments we have coming to VS.
A reminder that our school is governed by an enrolment scheme. Families and students who live within the school zone are automatically accepted. Out of zone families and students need to apply for an 'Out of Zone application' to come to VS. More info about the enrolment scheme can be found here: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/zoning-2016/out-of-zone-enrollment-form/
Thanks.
WEET BIX TRYATHLON - UPDATE
The Weetbix TRYathlon was a great day. There were over 1800 kids participating - this was a record for New Plymouth! Well done to all the Vogeltowners who represented the school, you were wonderful ambassadors for the school! Thanks to Mr George and Mr Stirling for your hard day's work too.
Here are just a few photos from the day:
WEET BIX TRYATHLON - BY HEATHER AND NALA
Last Tuesday we both participated in the Weet-Bix triathlon there was a drizzle of rain but that didn’t stop us. We enjoyed all three events in the swimming biking and running the swim was fantastic. The waves were huge and the water was warm. After the swim we ran to our bikes we rode along the aquatics centre and a little bit of the walkway. After the bike we ran along the grass and to the finish line. We received a gold medal and we felt very proud once we completed it. It was 100 metre swim, 4 km bike ride and a 1 km run. This was a great experience and we recommend it to everyone.
