Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
May 4, 2019
Well, we may have needed a row boat to get to school many of the days this past week, but we did successfully row our way through the week!
It was really wonderful to have Bishop Malloy celebrate our May Crowning mass this past Monday. The senior retreat leaders did a wonderful job representing their class in the May Crowing ceremony. It was just so touching! Also, as Bishop Malloy talked about our students needing to listen to God in order to follow the vocation that suits them, we need to remember that being educators in a Catholic school is ours. We need to remember what a blessing it is to be such an intregal part of these students lives, impacting their whole being, and even having a lasting impact on the direction that their lives will eventually take.
Thank you for your flexibility this week as we had a couple important interruptions to the schedule. On Wednesday, Guidance was able to successfully complete the pre-AP Testing meetings and Friday's honors day/graduation practice was successful. In addition, Our Theology department was able to administer the ACRE test (although P8 & 9 may have to complete their second part on Monday... but no worries, it is just a survey).
As promised, Mrs. Hilton emailed all teachers if they had students who were on the "Senior watch list." Again, please understand that we MUST receive a grade update for the student(s) prior to graduation in order to determine if they will actually graduate. Please contact Mrs. Novy immedietly after you have determined whether or not these students have successfully passed you class. This should be done no later than Thursday, April 23 at 4pm.
Mrs. Loy received quite a stack of senior exemption forms by Friday at 3pm! She is now in the process of organizing all of this information, and once done, she will be sharing out the information. Thank you for your folllow through on signing the forms for those who qualified and continuing to support your students. It doesn't stop here, though. Remember that if the students do not maintain their qualifying grade they could lose the exemption status. Because of this, it is imperative that you continue to keep your gradebooks as up to date as possible! Thank you!
The week ended with the school's annual Variety Show! Besides some amazing student acts, our very own Father Twenty. Check out a brief video with our very own Father Twenty performing! WOW! In addition, you can still peruse the art display in the AUditorium Commons. Check out the great artour students are producing!
Looking ahead...
Another busy and exciting week ahead! The week is filled with celebrating student scholars, senior atheletes, and our students having the opportunity to show what they know!
Of course, we all know that AP testing is always the first full two weeks of May, so we will have a running start on Monday! Please make sure you are fully aware of who will be absent for your classes and ensure that their absence is treated as excused.
On Tuesday we will be having our last Academic Breakfast of the school year! The last breakfast is always the biggest, as we recognize a variety of accomplishments, including top 10% of each class, Presidential award, and IHSA awards. It will be crowded, but it will also be a wonderful celebration! Please try to join our students and their families on this special day! The morning starts a little earlier... the presentation of awards begins at 7:00 am, so doors open between 6:30 and 6:45 am! We will also have some of our Marian instrumentalists providing the ambiance! See you there!
IDEA Pitch Night is this coming Thursday! Mr. Knutson and the IDEA student companies will be practicing in the auditorium during third period all week in preparation for their final pitch. A special thanks to Mrs. Loy, Mrs. Connell, and Miss Gallagher as they assist all week with the lighting, sound, and projection to ensure that the Final Pitch NIght will go off without a hitch! Please plan to come watch the pitches Thursday night and see which company will win! We will have a variety of tables in the auditorium commons for our visitors to see what Marian is all about! Besides an IDEA table, we will also have tables from Admissions, Development, and Engineering. Student work from the art department will also be on display. Would you like to join the fun and show off or advertise what your club or organization has to offer? There's still time! Please contact Ms. Novy by Wednesday afternoon if you are interested!
Finally, don't forget to stop out at your favorite spring sport to support your student athletes! There are several senior nights this week if you want to come celebrate their accomplishments!
Have a wonderful week!

Semester 2 FInal Exams
Final Exams will be here beore we know it! Here is some important information you will need to know. The parent grade portal will be closed as of Tuesday, May 21 at 8am, the first day of senior exams. Unfortunately we are not able to just close down the seniors, so the portal will remain closed until all grade meetings have been completed. Please make sure that you provide a clear deadline for seniors and underclassmen as to when is the last day you will be accepting late/missing work, but ALL summative work must be completed/made up before the exam dates. This also means making sure that ALL student grades are as up to date as possible prior to the closing of the portal so students and parents are very aware of their grades going into exams!
Please make sure you are fully aware of our Exam Procedures. Know, however, that due to the snow days the following exam schedule superseedes the one cited in this packet.
