Week of the Young Child 2016: Celebrating our Youngest Learners is April 12-15!

What is Week of the Young Child?

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child™ in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child™ is a time to plan how we—as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation—will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.

Celebrating the Week of the Young Child at the CDC

Throughout the week, you will receive a daily newsletter from us with articles regarding things we do in early childhood development and WHY it is important as well as ideas of how to bring these concepts into your home. Each day has a different focus (including Monday, which we will send the articles though we do not have school that day) on areas of development.

In addition, you will see a lot of different things around the school as we put on display the development of your children. Watch your newsletters and emails from you teacher regarding any special activities for your child's classroom. Different classes and age groups may do different things throughout the week.

Early childhood development is our passion, and we cannot wait to celebrate this fun week of awareness with all of you!
