Oxford Hills Schools Reflect on Community While Social Distancing
Starting the middle of May through the month of June, students from our eight elementary schools in MSAD#17 will engage in a community-wide unit of learning designed to answer the essential question: “What do we want our descendants to know about our community during the Spring of 2020?” The unit, created by teacher-leaders in the district, represents an effort to unite the community even while we are not physically in school together.
During the five weeks of the unit, elementary students will be invited to engage in a variety of interdisciplinary learning activities that connect to various themes of community.
- Week 1: Family Time
- Week 2: Kitchen Cuisine
- Week 3: Community Helper
- Week 4: Nature
- Week 5 Extra, Extra, Read All About It
Community businesses and organizations are encouraged to connect to these weekly themes.
All students, including those in middle and high school, will be invited to choose an artifact to submit to a digital archive that represents our time during social distancing. The artifacts will be curated and shared with local historical societies and relevant civic groups. If you are interested in learning more about this project or submitting an artifact yourself, contact Heather Manchester at h.manchester@msad17.org.
Students and Families: Here are some of the documents your teachers will be sending or posting to you!
Family Cover Sheet: This letter describes the project that our schools are undertaking. It will be going home in printed packets to students and will be posted in digital classrooms or messaging apps.
Selecting an Artifact for Submission: This sheet is designed for students to reflect on an artifact they would like to submit to the digital archive. There is a place for a parent/guardian signature for permission to share the artifact, in whatever media form it is in (document, video, photo, etc.)

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!
Families,
We had to work swiftly to pull together remote learning experiences for our students. We would like feedback from you regarding your child's learning during this time. We will use this information to plan for the future. Who knows, maybe the silver lining in all this will be that we won't have to have snow days!
Please choose the survey most appropriate for the age of your children. If you have multiple children in different schools, we'd love to have your input on the experience of each child. However, we understand if you only do one.
Family Survey: Elementary School (there is a place for you to select your child's school)
Family Survey: Oxford Hills Middle School
Family Survey: Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School
We are also surveying our students and staff. Thanks in advance for your participation!
