News From Principal Gregory Lamothe

Letter from Principal Lamothe
Hello PRS Wizards,
We had a wonderful presentation from the PTO for their annual kickoff campaign, "Where the Magic Begins". Students were excited about the magic that happened and the ability for their grade level to win a magic show. Students also had electrical safety lessons in their rooms this year and we would like to thanks Mr. Gouley for his expertise and engaging lessons on how to be safe when dealing with electricity.
We are excited to now be a month into school. We have successfully navigated how to get lunch as kindergarteners to beginning to play instruments or since in 5th grade. As we look forward to next week we look at fields trips for the 4th grade beginning with Worlds End and our fall Voyagers beginning.
Mrs. Smith and Mr. Lamothe do Magic!! 🙃

Preschool Screenings
Under federal and state special education regulations, Hingham Public Schools (HPS) has a responsibility to locate, identify, refer, evaluate, and if eligible, provide a free, appropriate, public education to students with disabilities who reside in the town of Hingham. For this purpose, we offer screenings twice per year, in November and February. Our first screening of the 2022-2023 school year will take place on Thursday, November 3rd at East Elementary School. If you would like your child screened, please call Darcy Greene, Administrative Assistant at 781-741-1570, x4967 or email dgreene@hinghamschools.org. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Early Childhood Coordinator Elizabeth Costanza, at ecostanza@hinghamschools.org.
Friendly Reminder
This past spring it became clear that establishing an aligned elementary schedule was a priority to ensure continuity across sites. This undertaking began with stakeholders throughout the district meeting and providing input relative to their experiences and offering insight into potential changes. With this input in mind, as well as time-on-learning guidelines provided by DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education), a schedule framework was developed that reflected not only time-on-learning parameters but also changes to past practices (ex. recess preceding lunch district-wide and the elimination of a second, standalone recess for Grades 3-5).
Our Grades 3-5 classrooms have adjusted to this change by providing opportunities to enjoy snack while working and embedding movement throughout their day.
Please know that building administrators are best able to field questions and concerns about this adjustment
