Coco Chanel

A French fashion designer and created the brand Chanel

How Coco Chanel became a fashion icon

Coco Chanel grew up in an orphanage. She came from nothing and built an empire. Coco Chanel was a French fashion designer. She was able to open her first hat shop in 1910. She began to gain popularity in the 1920's and has timeless designs that are still popular today like the legendary "little black dress". Chanel was the first designer to put her name on a fragrance and it opened a whole new channel for luxury fashion. Chanel has also changed the way the modern woman dressed in the 1920's. She introduced collared shirts, boat hats, striped sailor shirts, the quilted Chanel purse, the 2 tone pumps, and the classic Chanel suit. She refused to follow fashion trends and that is why her designs are timeless.
