One Word Splash
How it works
This strategy can seem overly simplistic, but it actually makes students use higher processing skills to start solidifying what they have learned in class. Once students have been exposed to new material, ask them to write down one word that summarizes what they've learned. This can be collected as an exit ticket.
other alternatives
- Students can turn this in as an exit ticket, or they can use Give One, Get One to discuss and summarize what they've learned.
- If students turn in as an exit ticket, you can redistribute the following class period and have students pair up to discuss the relevance of the word they received.
- Create a Jeopardy game with the words submitted to review material for an upcoming assessment.
Technology Integration
You can have students submit their responses using a tool like Mentimeter. This allows all students to see the words. From there, you can facilitate a discussion to review content covered in class.
