FRIDAY FLIPS
At Dryden, we FLIP for good choices! The Dryden staff is on the lookout for students going above and beyond in big and small ways to make a positive impact on their school community. These Dolphin sightings are recognized during the morning announcements on Fridays. The students above were recognized for being caring, responsible and safe. Stay tuned for weekly updates on these awesome Dolphin sightings and Friday Flips!
Tree U by the Village of Arlington Heights
This week, you may see our second and fourth grade students outside participating in the Tree U program by the Village of Arlington Heights. Arborists bring their trucks and equipment to demonstrate how to care for trees in the community. They teach about the importance of trees and partner with our classroom teachers on topics related to the students' curriculum. We are excited for our students to have this special learning opportunity!
HVAC Switch from Heating to Cooling this Week
The district facilities department will transition buildings from heating to cooling mode during the week. With the temperatures predicted to rapidly change over the next couple days, we encourage students to dress accordingly for the weather (ie lighter clothes if the temperatures are projected to be higher or vice versa). Once our building is transitioned to cooling, it will no longer have heating until the fall.
Virtual Author Visit with Candace Fleming
Award-winning author Candace Fleming is visiting Dryden virtually on May 11. We have been reading Honeybee, Gabriella's Song, The Tide Pool Waits, What Isabella Wanted, Muncha, Muncha, Muncha and excerpts from The Curse of the Mummy:Uncovering Tutankhamun's Tomb during LMC. Signed copies of books can be ordered through The Book Stall and will be delivered to Dryden. Return the paper order form or order online by May 13. Please contact LMC Director, Mrs. Kovacic, at bkovacic@sd25.org if you have any questions.
Veterans Parade, May 12
On the morning of Thursday, May 12, Rolling Thunder and Knights on Bikes will be escorting the Remembering Our Fallen traveling war memorial that honors our country's military Fallen from The Global War on Terror (9/11/2011 - 8/30/2021) through Arlington Heights to North Park. This escort will pass Dryden Elementary School shortly after 9:00 am, then pass several other D25 schools on its route to North Park, where the memorial will be placed through May 15. Details about the memorial and ceremonies at North Park can be found here.
Students will enter the building for attendance, then classes will line the sidewalks in front of Dryden School and the school parking lot. Parents and other visitors who would like to be present for this parade are asked to line the sidewalks across the street from Dryden. Please note that this is a SOMBER parade. It is a respectful memorial for Veterans. Respectful behavior includes hats off, silence, and maybe some clapping.
The motorcycles may be very loud, which may be difficult for students with sensory issues so please contact our school office if you prefer your student remain in the school building during the parade. Students in kindergarten through second grade will line the sidewalk between the bus lane and field, where the noise should not be as harsh on their ears.
