A Message From the Principal
As we continue our campaign to raise awareness about bullying prevention in our schools. Here at Silver Springs will be doing things to promote kindness. For example, each Monday during the month of October let's all wear blue to promote kindness!
This week's Choose Kindness Challenge is to commit an act of kindness everyday and challenge others to do the same. You could hold the door for the person behind you, or tell someone that they look nice today, or help someone that has dropped their books.
Let's see you we all can use Habit 8 by Finding our Voice and Inspiring Others to Find theirs. I look forward to hearing your stories about all the new friends that you have made.
Here's to a fun, kind, October!
Katie Booth, Principal
PLEASE Invest In Your Child
We need our Silver Springs families to make a donation to the PTA’s main fundraising campaign to ensure all our activities and events continue. We ask for this main donation instead of Fun Runs or students selling items door to door. Please donate what you can. Your donation is tax-deductible and benefits your child. Your PTA dollars funded a new assembly called ROAR to coincide with our Choose Kindness campaign during October. The PTA also funded IXL and BrainPOP again this year, which our students use in class and for extra practice at home. Please return your form that went home in last Monday’s envelope. Our Box Office goal is $16,000. We need all our celebrity star families to help us reach this BIG goal! You do not need to be a PTA member to make a donation. Stay tuned to the Silver Springs Elementary PTA FB page to see the Box Office numbers. The students will also earn fun extra activities, as we get closer to our goal!

1. Check all your home products for Box Tops for Education labels, and ask your neighbors too!
2. Trim the edges and make sure the expiration date shows.
3. Place Box Tops in a ziploc bag or envelope, or attach to a collection sheet (see attachment).
4. Put the student and teacher’s name on the bag/envelope/sheet.

Bus Evacuation Drills
Transporting students safely is always the most important issue to those of us in school bus transportation. We believe that knowing what to do in the case of an emergency is critical to the students’ safety. Just as students practice fire drills in the school buildings, the students should also practice evacuation drills on our school buses.
This is important knowledge that every school bus rider should have in the case of an emergency.
With the consent of the Principal and the assistance of staff, your driver will be conducting front door emergency evacuation drills at Silver Springs the morning of Tuesday, October 17th. Please see the attached letter for additional information.
After School Art
The Northville Art House will be at Silver Springs the week of Oct. 24th after school.
For every student that signs up, $3 per student will be given back to our PTA.
Registration is now open for October and November after school art classes.

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit #6: Synergize
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get more done and come up with better solutions than we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With your children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.
