Murray Avenue School Newsletter 9-20-22

Message from Ms. Dilks

Welcome back to the 22-23 school year! This year, our theme is, "Seeking the Summit." We are looking forward to encouraging our students to become the best version of themselves as they are on their journey to become young adults. We are excited to help them grow and learn in many different ways this year. We are welcoming many new families and we look forward to getting to know our new students and their families. I want to provide you with some updates and also revisit some instructions for the opening of the school year.

Daily Attendance

All of your attendance reporting needs are handled by one electronic form. This will also replace the need for a phone call to the attendance line.

Please use the MA Attendance Form for the 2022-2023 school year which can be found on the MAS website homepage under Quick Links and also can be found under "Announcements." Every year we use an updated form; please do not use an saved form.

The MA Attendance Form should be used to do the following:

-Use this form to report your child’s absence. Submitting this form will both report the absence and document it. No follow up Blue card or note is needed.

-Submit this form to sign your child into school late.

-Submit this form to sign your child out for an appointment (early dismissal). This form allows you to enter a return to school time if your child will be returning to school.

-Please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Melissa Huber, to report or discuss COVID-related absences. Her email is mhuber@lmtsd.org.

Please Note:

If you are taking an extended vacation, you will still need to complete the Request for Excusal from Regular School Attendance, familiar to most families as a vacation request form. The form is found on the Virtual Backpack under Forms.

Doctors’ notes still need to be submitted to the school attendance secretary or sent into school.

Walking Passes: If you want a walking pass for one day or for the year for your child, please email Mrs. Kim Kelly at kkelly@lmtsd.org or Mrs. Natalie Firko at nfirko@lmtsd.org to request this.

Breakfast at Murray Avenue: Beginning October 1, breakfast will be free for students who wish to take advantage of this.

FirstView Bus App for Families

Lower Moreland Township School District has partnered with FirstView which is an app for parents that allows for direct access to the status of your child’s bus. FirstView GPS tracks the bus on a map and allows you to set up a customizable geo-fence around your pick-up/drop-off location, so you can be alerted when the bus is close. You can customize your notifications on the app.

This is a free app for parents that can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Here are the instructions for getting started with the app: FirstView Bus App. The instruction sheet has the district code and a list of the bus routes that are needed to register. Using this app is optional. The district will continue to send Connect Ed notifications about the status of bus changes or significant delays.

Grade 7 Renaissance Faire Updated Student Pick Up Time

Grade 7 will be going to the Renaissance Faire on Oct. 4th. Students need to report to school at 7 am. We have changed the departure time from the Faire which will allow students to return to school in time to take their regular buses home at the end of the day. Students can buy lunch or pack a lunch. There are items to purchase at the Faire but providing spending money is optional. This is a rain or shine event. Students should dress to be outdoors.

Boys Soccer Tryouts This Week

Boys soccer will hold tryouts on Wednesday, 9/28, Thursday, 9/29, and Friday, 9/30 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.

LionVoice Performs at Phillies Game

On Thursday, September 8th, LionVoice sang the National Anthem at the Phillies game! While the Phillies lost a tough one, it was an incredible experience for all of the singers and their families.

In August, LionVoice released its first album, LV, Vol. 1, on all major music streaming platforms (like Spotify, Amazon Music, Youtube Music, and Apple Music). Click HERE to listen on Spotify and support these incredible singers!

Congratulations to Our Published Poetry Writers

Grade Murray Avenue students, Angela Kushnir and Grace Joseph were recently published in the Young Writers poetry publication entitled, Empowered - The Land of the Free. Angela's poem, "Truly Fearless" and Grace's "Unleash Your Voice" were written and submitted in 6th grade, with the publication released over the summer. Congratulations!

Health History Update Needed for School Nurse

Parents/guardians need to submit a Health History Update form. This form can be printed using a paper copy which is available on our virtual backpack: Health History Update.

Parent/Guaridan Information about Canvas

This year all of our teachers are using Canvas, which is our new learning management system. Parents and guardians can be added as observers to your child's account.

An observer can view and read announcements, view the calendar, and view assignment due dates. If you want to read more about the observer role, click HERE. There are instructions for how to become an observer on your child's account. Parents/guardians can be paired with more than one account if you have multiple students.
