    MARCH IS READING MONTH

    MEADOWS READ-A-THON

On March 5th, Meadows will begin our March Is Reading Month Read-a-Thon! Since COVID cancelled our annual Fun Fest, this will be our main fundraiser for the year. The funds raised through the read-a-thon will help the PTO support our amazing staff and students at Meadows through classroom enhancements, assemblies, field trips, 5th grade camp scholarships, student planners, staff appreciation, and much more! By early next week, your child's teacher will be sending home information to help you set up your student's account. You will have to enter the class code given to you by your teacher and your child's name (first and last). Once set up, your child can log their reading minutes and collect online donations. Students will have the chance to earn $50 gift cards, $10 gift cards, and various classroom treats! And if we raise $20,000 as a school, we get to watch Mrs. Fenchel and Mr. Brickey get SLIMED!!! If you have any questions, please contact Julie Song at jelyse75@yahoo.com. Let's get READING!!!

    FEBRUARY PRIDE FOCUS: EFFORT

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT (PBIS) AT MEADOWS

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs.

Meadows has an active committee implementing the PBIS program, and your support is essential. Together we can help our students know and uphold these expectations.

Our Meadows PBIS parent letter can be found below, along with the PRIDE Behavior Matrix, which we ask be reviewed with your child.

Lastly, we've updated our PRIDE Board for February, offering suggestions on how to practice Effort.

Please follow @NoviMeadows on Twitter to see our PRIDE in action.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

    NOVI EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (NEF)

NEF "NO GO" GREEN GALA - MARCH 19-21

The Novi Educational Foundation’s 2021 Green Gala will not take place. Instead, Executive Director Jason Smith and Committee Members Elisa Endress, Trina Klassa, and Sue Schroeder invite you to support the NEF’s first ever “No Go”Green Gala over the weekend of March 19-21. Purchase “Give-Its” (donated tickets), become a sponsor, and/or bid on auction items to further our mission of enriching the educational experience of each student by supporting opportunities that require financial resources beyond the district’s contribution.

Proceeds will support students and teachers in the Novi Community School District by providing classroom grants, district-wide programs, and student scholarships.

We have held our annual Green Gala for 13 years. Although we cannot assemble in person, we are keeping the tradition of our Green Gala alive because our teachers and students still require support. Teachers have ideas that need to turn into reality. Students deserve additional learning opportunities. And it is your support that makes these come to fruition. So even though we cannot hold the 2021 Green Gala as hoped, we will instead celebrate our first “No Go” Green Gala.

By donating to the Novi Educational Foundation and our “No Gala” Green Gala, you are:

    • Supporting the development of innovative new programming and educational opportunities
    • Imagining the possibilities, Investing in our students, and Inspiring them to do more
    • Bring the mission of the Novi Educational Foundation to new audiences

    ABSENT WORK

    Novi Meadows Parents:

When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. A good time to get additional help is during

Academic 30. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities.

    STUDENT PICK-UP

Due to Covid protocols, parents will not be allowed to enter the Meadows Building. If need arises for you to collect your child, please buzz the front door and have your ID readily available. In most instances, your child will be escorted to meet you outside the main entrance door. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping everyone safe and healthy.

    PPE

    • Students are required to wear a mask* while they are on the bus or in the school
    • Students will be given short mask breaks when they are outside
    • Hand sanitizer and wipes are available in each classroom
    • Students will be reminded to wash hands frequently

    ACCEPTABLE MASKS*

NCSD is following CDC and Oakland County's guidelines for acceptable style masks. Therefore, we discourage masks with vents and gaiter-sleeve masks.
