STUDENT COMMITMENT TO GIVING BACK IN A MULTITUDE OF WAYS
Students at Clarks Creek surpass fundraiser goal in 2 weeks!
Congratulations to students at Clarks Creek Elementary on surpassing their goal and raising $4,642.96 in a recent Pennies for Patients fundraiser!
Student council members organized the fundraiser in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Program sponsor Jeff Van Paris says, "We have been doing Pennies for Patients for at least three years now." The 4th grade teacher used a DVD about a child with leukemia presented by the Peanuts characters to promote the event, first to the council and later to all Clarks Creek students.
"Our student council members felt the DVD answered many questions about the disease," said Mr. Van Paris. "They made commercials for daily announcements as a way to share information about the disease and the impact their efforts could have."
The top collecting class each week in grades K-1, 2-3, & 4-5 received free ice cream. The overall top collecting class in each group at the end of the two weeks was awarded a class pizza party!
"This is our biggest charity drive we do each year, but we pride ourselves in helping many other charities," explains Van Paris.
The school collected over 30 bags full of nonperishable food items for St. Mark's Food Pantry in January. Other organizations supported this year include Breast Cancer Research, United Way, UNICEF, Samaritan’s Purse, and Sheltering Wings, Riley Hospital and Wounded Warriors.
PCSC elementary schools work together in Coins 4 Kids campaign
Three PCSC elementary schools recently raised funds in a combined effort to support Susie's Place Child Advocacy Centers.
Students from Van Buren, Central and Brentwood elementaries raised a combined total of $5080.13!
Clarks Creek Elementary did not participate in the event due to already participating in a Pennies for Patients fundraiser during the same time period.
Funds raised through the Plainfield Coins 4 Kids campaign directly support the Avon Child Advocacy Center which serves kids in Plainfield schools.
PHS student/faculty game raises funds for students to participate in Special Olympics
Members of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club sponsored a faculty/student basketball game on March 5, 2015. The event was a great opportunity for fun as well as an opportunity to raise money for a great cause.
Student Assistance Counselor Justine Thompson says, "Financial support is necessary in order for our PHS students to participate in the Special Olympics this summer." The game raised $915.50 toward this effort.
"The excitement and joy they expressed while playing was priceless," according to Mrs. Thompson. "It clearly underlined the importance of the Special Olympics experience for our PHS students."
Brentwood students jump right in!
On March 5th, Brentwood Elementary School held its 2015 Jump Rope for Heart raising $4,827.74!
The annual event is organized by physical education teacher Madalin Eakes and includes a variety of fun-filled, heart-healthy activities in the school gym/cafeteria for all participants. Students are placed on teams with other jumpers and rotate between activity stations throughout the event.
The American Heart Association (AHA) sponsors the activity annually and donates a jump rope to every participating student. In weeks leading up to the activity, Mrs. Eakes seeks volunteers and takes donations from individual contributors as well as businesses interested in monetarily supporting the organization's efforts with heart education and heart research.

Plainfield High School AP Music Theory students are preparing to attend the much anticipated March 20th performance by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The event brings the world premier of a piece composed by Mr. James Beckel, who was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1997 for his composition of The Glass Bead Game: Concerto for Horn and Orchestra.
Students are also looking forward to a classroom visit by Mr. Beckel at PHS later the same week where he will discuss the music theory he used to create his music.
