Biography
Lauren Tarshis was born on November 23, 1963. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She now lives in Connecticut with her husband and four children. When she is not with her family or writing a book or magazine she likes to spend time with her friends. She went hiking once with her friend for the very first time, and they got lost. But luckily there was other people out hiking, and an old man came and helped them find their way back. Her series includes more than 13 I Survived books, they are true stories from today and history facing extraordinary events.

Young Lucas loves football, and the only thing he loves more than football is his Uncle Benny. Uncle Benny works at the fire department with Lucas' dad. Thomas and his little sister Birdie have been slaves on a farm in Virginia their whole lives. Its hard for them but at least they are still together they think. But then one day some men come and take Thomas away from his sister. Thomas realizes he has no choice, he and his sister have to escape to the north. Even with the slave hunters on the trail they need to escape so they head off to into a dark forest. The two are hoping this will lead them to a journey of freedom.
