Kindness Counts!
Recently, I shared with our students that we often tend to focus on what is bad in our lives rather than what is good. The reality is, there is more good in our days than bad, and sometimes just by changing our attitude we can turn a gloomy day into a glorious one.
Great “attitude adjusters” are random acts of kindness. We have all heard about completing kind acts, but have you tried it? It’s virtually impossible to have a bad day when you fill it by doing things that are considerate and kind.
Below you will find a few suggestions for random acts of kindness that we encourage you to try with your family. When you do something from the list (or an idea that you come up with on your own) you can post it on Twitter using #KindnessCounts, write it on a piece of paper and share it with Ms. Nail or a teacher, or keep track in a journal. Writing your acts down will help you see all the positivity you are contributing to the world!
· Give someone you don’t know very well a compliment.
· Donate clothes that are too small to others in need.
· Email or write to an old teacher to tell them the difference they made in your life.
· Smile at someone just because.
· Do your brother or sister’s chores for one day.
· Hold the door for someone.
· Rake a neighbor’s leaves.
· Write positive messages with chalk on the sidewalks in your neighborhood.
· Write a thank you note for the postal worker.
· Let someone in front of you in the lunch line.
· Say hello to everyone you see.
· Make your parents breakfast in bed.
· If you use social media, say something kind or encouraging to others.
· Give someone a hug!
Love,
Ms. Nail

Message from the Nurse
FOR 5TH GRADE GIRLS ONLY
Cibolo Creek Elementary School will be conducting spinal screenings on December 10, 2019 for all 5th grade girls. The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Scoliosis, a common spinal abnormality found in adolescents, is a sideways twisting of the spine. It is usually detected in children between 10 and 14 years of age. Kyphosis, sometimes called round back, is an exaggerated rounding of the upper back and is often confused with poor posture. Many cases of curvature of the spine are mild and require only ongoing observation by a physician when they are first diagnosed. Others can worsen with time as the child grows and require active treatment such as bracing and surgery. Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity that can affect a person's appearance and health.
The procedure for screening is simple. Screeners who have been specially trained will look at your child's back while he/she stands and then bends forward.
STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR SHORTS OR PANTS FOR THE EXAM. ALL STUDENTS MUST REMOVE THEIR SHIRT FOR THIS EXAM. FOR THIS REASON, WE REQUEST THAT GIRLS WEAR A HALTER TOP, TUBE TOP, SPORTS BRA, OR A 2 PIECE SWIMSUIT TOP UNDERNEATH THEIR SHIRT ON EXAM DAY.
Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow-up is necessary. This screening procedure does not replace your child's need for regular health care and check-ups.
According to law, all girls in 5th and 7th grades and all boys in 8th grade must receive the spinal screening. If, for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, you are to submit an affidavit of religious exemption to this office no later than December 6, 2019. Please contact me if you need this form.
Thank you for your cooperation.

"For the Love of Reading" Readers' Club
Bring a snack and a book and read with us after school on Wednesdays in the Learning Lounge. Ask Mrs. Meschko, Mrs. Liebau or your classroom teacher for a permission slip, we'd love to see you there!
Box Top Winners!
Congratulations to Mrs. Ashley's class for collecting the most box tops during the month of November and earning extra recess! Her class clipped 213 box tops, which is a $21.30 donation to our school.
We had a tie for the month of November for the most box tops collected by a student. Allie Wright from Mrs. Ashley's class and Torin Tucker from Mrs. Farias' class each collected 120 box tops. Both girls won a $10 gift card! Let's keep the ball rolling on box top collections! The next deadline is Thursday, January 9, 2020. Same rules!
You can place your box tops in the collection bin across from nurse’s office. Also, don't forget about scanning your receipts. Box Top is phasing out their clipped box tops. When submitting box tops, don't forget to include your child's name, teacher and grade. Download the Box Tops for Education App in the Apple store or on Google Play.

BISD Talent Show Auditions
As we close out our 2nd great 8 skill, “Self-Management” I encourage parents to talk to their children on ways they themselves handle different emotions. Remind them that it’s okay to get angry, sad, or feel super silly, but being able to express these feelings in a healthy way is what’s most important.
Mr. Rogers, who is most known for his children’s television show, sang a song that sent a beautiful message on ways children can manage their emotions.
What do you do with the Mad that You Feel? -Fred Rogers
What do you do with the mad that you feel?
When you feel so mad you could bite?
When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong...
And nothing you do seems very right?
What do you do? Do you punch a bag?
Do you pound some clay or some dough?
Do you round up friends for a game of tag?
Or see how fast you go?
It's great to be able to stop
When you've planned a thing that's wrong,
And be able to do something else instead
And think this song:
I can stop when I want to
Can stop when I wish
I can stop, stop, stop any time.
And what a good feeling to feel like this
And know that the feeling is really mine.
Know that there's something deep inside
That helps us become what we can.
For a girl can be someday a woman
And a boy can be someday a man.

Have a great weekend!
