Performing Artists - Students from the West Side Music Academy
Performing artists are students at West Side Music Academy which has been a part of the West Seattle community since 1999. Owners Chris and Cami MacDonald started by teaching piano and guitar from their home on SW Dakota St. It wasn't long before a waiting list began and another teacher was added, then another, and now WSMA boasts 12 vibrant music teachers offering private lessons in pretty much any instrument. West Side Music also offers summer group classes and camps for rock band and jazz combos for most ages.
Vocal Performers: "Two of a Kind"
Maya and Alena Friedrich are twin 13-year old sisters who share a passion for music and together call their duo, "Two of a Kind". Maya and Alena began music at the age of 7, and ever since have actively pursued singing and songwriting, as well as guitar and piano as vocal accompaniment. Maya and Alena would like to express their appreciation to Westside Music Academy, especially to their teacher and mentor Katie Voss, for their enduring teaching and support.
Featured Artist: Cullen Bryan
Cullen Bryan is a Seattle-born artist, aged 21 years, having spent the latter 10 years as an artist. He has been illustrating for every one of those years, whilst dabbling in paint, graphic design, and screen printing, among other genres. Raised in the wonderfully diverse neighborhood of White Center, he recently moved to West Seattle and looks forward to moving his artistic focus onward and outward in what he finds is a rapidly developing, yet cozy hometown to a young, creative population.
hIs focus has always been a creative way to effectively pay tribute to music and movies. Portraits are his specialty, though he enjoys illustrating scenery, caricatures, collages, and other miscellaneous content. Crisp, clean lines and bold color combinations are what he likes to see and loves to create. The expression a person makes is what he strives to convey and re-package in an interesting display. If emotion, reminiscence, and/or nostalgia is what you look for in a piece of art, look no further.
Featured Artist: Rochelle Luer
Rochelle Luer is a 33 year old artist and writer who grew up in California and has lived in Washington for 13 years. Growing up with a father who's an artist she was always greatly encouraged to express herself through different mediums. Her early years were spent in oils and charcoal in very traditional forms of portraits and landscapes. In recent years she now uses acrylics in large lyrical abstract form. Pieces of her poetry can be found in the compilation book "life in the fish bowl" as well as online on her blog. Locally she has shown and sold her art through local vendors, events and showings, providing auction pieces for the Duval School District and live painting performances at the Admiral Theater. Rochelle's purpose in life is to be a form of light, beauty and joy for those she meets, eternally on a quest for deeper truth and love.
