  • Most calendar sales in a classroom will win a pizza party!
  • We are also collecting photos for the calendar-- please send in photos of Qatar with your child's name and our class on the back
  • Order you calendar today!!!

Social Studies

  • Review of the Core Values
  • Reading Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes and looking at what Lily should do in order to follow the Core Values
  • Reading Have You Filled a Bucket? and talking about how to be positive and fill a friend's bucket (asks students about what this means at the end of the week)
  • Acting out appropriate and inappropriate behaviors, Core Values, and how to be a Bucket Filler

Homework Reminder

Homework will be sent home in the green Home Folders on Sundays and is due back at school on Thursdays. If something comes up and you need to return the homework the following Sunday, that's fine too. Book Bags should be returned to school each day. Students can switch out their books each day-- if they have finished a book, then feel free to keep it another night. I am still doing individual reading assessment with the kids, so I will not be sending home leveled books just yet. Students are always welcome to read their library books or go on Tumble Books (www.tumblebooks.com, login/password: asd) to read too. I am aware that it will take a few weeks to iron out this whole system :)

Guest Reader

We would love to have you all come in and read in the classroom! We have a Guest Reader slot for parents (or other relatives!) from 12:15-12:30 on Tuesdays that we have a 12:30 dismissal. It's a great way to introduce a variety of books to the kids, come into the classroom to help out, and get to know our class! You are welcome to bring your child's favorite book(s) (be sure to bring enough books to last 15 minutes) or I can arrange for a book for you if you let me know in advance. If 12:15-12:30 does not work for you on Tuesdays, please let me know and we can work out a mutually agreeable time to come read to the class.

Personal Request: Do you know of any available maids?

We are in search of a live-in maid to care for our two children and our house. Our daughter, Mya, is 2 years old (she's in pre-school from 7am-1pm) and our son, Tai, is 6.5 months old. We have been extremely lucky to have my mom come here with us, but Gaga has to go home to Papa in Denver, CO at some point. We had a live-in helper in Singapore (and I grew up with a maid), so we are not new to the whole live-in situation. We have been interviewing and searching since we arrived in August, but are finding it hard to find someone. We need someone who is great with kids and also speaks decent English (our kids are at the ages where their language is developing). I apologize for making a personal request in our school newsletter, but I figure by asking everyone here I've now asked 20 families to keep a look out for me (and my husband is asking his classes too-- so we will have hit 60 families in our newsletters). Thanks in advance for any leads with this! I have included a picture of our kids-- come on, aren't they cute? Who wouldn't want to take care of those two??
