Note from Ms. Moulton

Good Afternoon, Hosmer Families,

We are in the final stretch! It has been awesome to welcome so many family members into school this week! Being able to be together a bit more has just been so lovely. We at Hosmer are so very grateful for the support that you have given to us and to your children over the course of this year. When we think back to the fall - in our old building and wearing masks - it feels like so long ago. It has truly been an incredible year!

As we plan ahead for 2022-2023 school year, I invite you to take a look at our School Improvement Plan (SIP), which I shared with the School Committee earlier this month. Hosmer, Cunniff, Lowell, and District leaders worked closely together to submit common goals which we will continue to collaborate on enancting next year.

Supply Lists - There aren't any!

There will no longer be a school supply list sent home to students. During Covid, the District provided materials for students and we have made the decision (across the three elementary schools) to continue with this practice. We hope that this makes things easier for all of our families and students!

Classroom/Teacher Assignments for the Coming Year

This year we will not be hosting a Move-Up Day where students meet their new teachers and classmates or sharing class assignment information in Report Cards. Due to the nature of ongoing enrollment during the summer months, we will be emailing out placement letters to families on August 1st. This is the practice we will use across the District and it will enable us to make any adjustments to class lists during the summer as needed.

As a point of reference, Hosmer had close to forty students enroll last summer (after school ended and assignments had been shared) along with changes in staffing. In order to best serve all students in the coming year, we need to retain some flexibility in shifting class assignments over the summer.

Moving out of Watertown?

If you are moving out of Watertown OR have new students registering for Kindergarten, PLEASE complete the appropriate forms (found later in this newsletter), so that we can appropriately plan for next year.

Family Visits

Thank you so much to family members of students in Kindergarten and Grade 3 who so willingly followed our Family Visit procedures. This week there are some additional visits scheduled for this week.

As we strive to maintain a safe and secure environment, we ask that you cooperate with us in following protocols when attending events:

  • Guests will enter through the Main Door #4/Purple Door and sign in at the table.
  • Doors will open at the published start time. We are not able to welcome people before then.
  • As an additional precaution, siblings who attend Hosmer cannot leave class to attend these events as we do not want children walking around the building when many visitors are present

Hosmer Retirements

We have several beloved and respected members of the Hosmer team retiring at the end of this school year. Please join us in saying thank you and sending best wishes to Judy Tan (Kindergarten Teacher), Maria Kendricken (Physical Therapist), Ellen Scafidi (Cafeteria Manager) as they embark on this new and exciting journey. They will all be tremendously missed as they have made significant contributions to the Hosmer (and Watertown) communities.

As always, I thank you for your continued support of our wonderful school.

With a grateful heart,

Erin Moulton, Principal

Online Art Show

The Watertown Public Schools 2022 Student Art Exhibit is now on virtual display. We are honored to celebrate and showcase the creativity and dedication to the Visual Arts of WPS students. Examples of 6-12th grade student art were on display in person at the Watertown Mall for the first time since before the pandemic, and selected elementary art is also now on display virtually (due to transitions and building moves). Navigate through the online exhibition to see a wide array of art created during the 2021-2022 school year.

Congratulations to Watertown art students and thank you to families for your support! Enjoy the show!
