Principal's Message
The beginning of a new year, whether it is a school year or a calendar year, has always brought me hope and excitement for the possibilities that lie ahead. 2021 has begun, and though we continue to face some challenges and uncertainties, we also have the opportunity to enjoy and contribute to the learning community of the International School of Beaverton. In her December 14 newsletter, Jill spoke of cleaning out her office and reliving some of the memories of 11 years as principal at ISB. The office will be a bit of a clean slate when I arrive on January 4, and while I will only have six months of memories to capture, I know they will be memories of wonderful people to work with, fabulous families and students to meet and get to know, new learnings, and meaningful work that will serve the entire community.
I hope that your family enjoyed a happy and restful winter break. Best wishes to you all for a safe, healthy start to 2021, and I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams

Youth Access Card for WCCLS Libraries
We have some exciting news to share! New students at ISB will be receiving a WCCLS library card called a Youth Access Card (YAC)! We hope to mail cards to each student this month. Use Sora to Check Out eBooks
ISB is currently in the 17th place of all Sora users in the district! That is impressive. What is Sora? Obviously, many of you know. It is the online platform for reading eBooks or listening to audiobooks. How do you get to Sora? The link below is to ISB's library:
https://isb.beaverton.k12.or.us/academics/library
Click on the Sora icon (cartoon soaring airplane) and if you are logged into your Chromebook it will take you to the site. Type the title you are looking for into the search. If it's available, click the blue Borrow next to the book and it will be checked out to you and loaded on to your device. If not, click the black Place Hold next to the book. You will be notified when it is ready. Happy reading!
ISB Library Books Available for Check Out
Looking for a good book? Students can browse the ISB library collection online, check out a book, and pick it up curbside.
Watch this video to learn how to place a hold for a book in Destiny, the ISB library book catalog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dI4j9c_Tac&t=2s
Once a book is ready for a student, they will receive an email from Audrey Schiefelbein. Pick-up days and times are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. When you arrive at school, call the school office, and we'll deliver the book curbside.

Math Tutoring
Need help in math? Here are two possible resources:
ISB's Math Honor Society is hosting Math Tutoring sessions every Wednesday from 12-1 pm (on school days only). Students can find the Zoom link and password in their grade level Canvas Course. Please do not share the link with anyone outside of the ISB community.
Monday-Thursday from 5-6 pm, Western Oregon University's Math Education students are staffing a daily math homework help session for students in Grades 4-12. Each session will have at least two tutors available and on Tuesdays a Spanish-speaking tutor will be available. All sessions are recorded to protect both WOU and 4-12 grade students. WOU expects that all students are supervised by an adult during the tutoring sessions. Questions? Contact WOU's Dr. Rachel Harrington at harringtonr@wou.edu or 503-838-8831.
