- Cause is Unknown
- Body's own immune system attacks the insulin producing cells in pancreas.
- Genetics may possibly play a role in this process.
- Exposure to certain environmental factors may trigger the disease. (Viruses)

- Occurs in the Pancreas
- Islet cells are destroyed in pancreas.
- Insulin enables sugar to enter cells.
- It also lowers the amount of sugar in your bloodstream.
