  • Body's own immune system attacks the insulin producing cells in pancreas.
  • Genetics may possibly play a role in this process.
  • Exposure to certain environmental factors may trigger the disease. (Viruses)


  • Occurs in the Pancreas
  • Islet cells are destroyed in pancreas.
  • Insulin enables sugar to enter cells.
  • It also lowers the amount of sugar in your bloodstream.
