Young Writers Contest
Junior Theater Festival, Atlanta Georgia
Twenty-one Stopher students went to the Junior Theater Festival last weekend. It was a weekend of workshops, concerts, interviews with Broadway stars, and awards! There were over five thousand other students and fans of musical theater at the event, 110 groups performed. On Saturday, our Stopher Arts group presented a 15-minute performance telling the story of The Lion King, Jr. One of our judges was Daniel Yearwood who is a member of the cast of Hamilton. After our performance, Emma Eckels and Josiah Griffin were chosen as All-stars. During the award show on Sunday, the Stopher Arts group was one of 17 groups (the only school and the only elementary group!) who won an award for “Excellence in Ensemble Work!” Eliza Smith (Stopher 5th grader when originally cast for 2020) won “Outstanding Performance by an Individual.” It was an incredible weekend we will never forget.
Participants: Gwen Blatt, Kathryn Durst, Emma Eckels, Landon Eden, Josiah Griffin, Zoe Hargis, GiGi Henderson, Audrey Matson, Gabby Piendel, Grace Piendel, Emma Claire Prather, Mia Rowland, Rosa Simic, Nora Skeeters, Eliza Smith, Wesley Stanford, Jack Thomas, Olivia Thomas, Annalee Watson, Harper Whitworth, Maddie Wilson.
