The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC), a new science museum opening up in the river district in Sacramento (formerly Powerhouse Science Center) has a Volunteer Opportunity!!!

They are looking for teen Camp Counselors to volunteer for at least 3 full camp weeks (M-F, 8 am-5 pm) this summer in our Camp Curiosity program with kids in kindergarten-sixth grade. Camp runs each week, June 14-August 13.

They are seeking teens ages 15-19 who:

  • Enjoy working with children
  • Enjoy learning about, teaching about, and exploring science, engineering, and the natural world
  • Want to serve their community through volunteer hours
  • Are willing to get silly, have fun, and be creative!

Camp Counselors will assist camp staff within weekly assigned roles, such as being assigned to a group of 12 campers for the week. Counselors will assist with daily camp activities and procedures including hands-on science, engineering challenges, arts and crafts, games, stories, and more! Camp Counselors will also be assisting staff in modeling and enforcing COVID protocols for Day Camps as outlined by Sacramento County which include mask-wearing at all times except during meals and snacks, social distancing, and increased handwashing and cleaning protocols.

Interested parties can sign up via the link below. The application should be filled out by the teen volunteer, not the parent. We will follow up with more details or contact teens for interviews. If teens are accepted into the program, they will be required to submit a liability release waiver, photo release, COVID release, and a program fee before beginning their volunteer hours.

Click below to sign up. Before reaching the camp counselor application you will need to join the City of Sacramento’s Better Impact site with your contact information.
